DUCK DYNASTY Stars Talk Phil Robertson’s Road to Redemption in THE BLIND
By Movieguide® Contributor
DUCK DYNASTY stars Willie and Korie Robertson recently spoke with Christian Headlines about THE BLIND, the powerful new biopic depicting Phil Robertson’s life and conversion to Christianity.
“Long before Phil Robertson was a reality TV star, he fell in love, started a family and began to spiral out of control. THE BLIND shares never-before-revealed moments in Phil’s life as he seeks to conquer the shame of his past, ultimately finding redemption in an unlikely place,” a synopsis reads.
Movieguide® previously reported Phil’s comments about the movie:
Robertson struggled with alcohol abuse for years and was unfaithful in his marriage to wife Kay. His life turned around after he found Jesus.
‘I’m embarrassed by my past on one side, but on the other, I’m unashamed because my rotten sins have been bought and paid for by blood,’ Robertson said in a statement about the movie. ‘If THE BLIND brings one person to know the power of the blood of Jesus, it was worth it.’
“Without what happens in THE BLIND, there would be no dynasty. This is the story you haven’t heard. We made this movie so people would know that if you’ve got troubles, there’s a way out,” Phil’s son Willie, who is also a producer for the movie, said.
The movie shows how Phil’s alcoholism drove Kay to leave him when Willie was young.
“I could always sense it and feel that my parents had come out of some tragedy, damage for sure,” Willie said. “But…most of my memories, thank the Lord, are from really, the healing process and them doing really good and being great people.”
Phil eventually decided to give up alcohol and give his life to Christ. His decision permanently affected his family, particularly his children, who are now all strong Christians.
“Whenever a family sticks together, [whenever] a family turns to Jesus…there’s a generational impact,” Korie said.
THE BLIND will premiere in theaters September 28 through October 5.
Movieguide® previously reported on THE BLIND:
The movie, set in the Deep South in the 1960s, tells the story of Robertson’s life, including his struggles with addiction.
“This movie shows me at my worst moments. It wasn’t easy for me to watch, especially at first,” Robertson said. “But The Blind is also a movie about love and hope. If a scoundrel like me can be redeemed, then believe me, so can you. There’s nothing you’ve done that’s beyond God’s grace.”
“It was important to us that the film be real,” said Willie Robertson, Robertson’s son. “The transformation of Phil proves that anyone can change and that there is always hope.”
