Dwayne Johnson Teases WWE Return: ‘I’m Open’

After a ten-year absence from proper WWE matches, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased that he might give it another go.

The JUMANJI actor recently told sports analyst Pat McAffee that a match against his cousin Roman Reigns could happen at WrestleMania in April 2024.

“The 51-year-old wrestler-turned-actor said he’s less worried about potentially getting injured than he is about delivering a memorable match for fans,” PEOPLE reported.

“I’m open,” Johnson said. “…The fans deserve something just incredible and unprecedented. And not only that, I always want to deliver to the locker room, and the boys and the girls back there that are working [hard]. What can we do that can put them in position to be a part of something that is a new change and era in this world of pro wrestling?”

In 2013, Johnson had a painful match with John Cena. As a result, some of his abdomen and adductor muscles tore off the bone. He said his doctor “had to push [the] intestines back thru the tear in my abdomen.”

“Honestly brother, it’s not the injury that I’m concerned about because that’s just part of it,” Johnson told McAfee. “It’s just part of the game you sign up for. You get hurt, we all get hurt. That’s just the way it is. It’s not even the schedule, because I can control the schedule to a large degree.”

“Me going back to WWE and wrestling a match, it always comes down to the reason why and what can we create that’s never been done before–for the fans,” Johnson said.

When Johnson films movies, he insists on a contract clause that states that he cannot lose any fight scenes. If he takes the same approach to notoriously scripted WWE fights, fans already know Johnson will have the win in the bag.

Movieguide® recently reported on The Rock’s surprise for a young girl battling with cancer:

‘This is such a special day,’ Johnson said in an Instagram post. ‘I have been following Luna for a couple of years now, she is my biggest fan, I’m so honored, I am so honored and grateful she is my biggest fan.  I’m her biggest fan too as well, we have never met. Luna is so special, she’s one of the strongest girls on the planet.’

Luna Perrone, 12, has battled Ewing’s sarcoma off and on since she was 9.  This is now her third time fighting cancer.

‘She’s been battling cancer for a few years now [and] unfortunately just received some news that the cancer has spread, and she has no idea I’m going to surprise her,’ Johnson’s post continued. ‘I told her family ‘Tell Luna I’m setting up a lunch for you guys at my favorite hotel, and I’m sorry I can’t be there.’ So I’m going to take her food that she ordered, I’m going to be a waiter, not a good one I’m sure, and I’m going to take her food out and we’re going to surprise her for the first time.’
