Eagles WR A.J. Brown ‘Reads the Bible’ to ‘Fight Problems’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown remains humble amid his stellar career, always giving glory to God.
Before the Super Bowl in February, Brown told Sports Spectrum how he deals with adversity:
“I had plans and God had other plans. I try not to lean on my own understanding. I read the Bible a lot because that’s how I fight my problems. I’m not trying to stand up here and be a perfect guy because I’m not; nobody is. But I just lean heavily on my faith and try to let Him direct my paths.”
While Brown’s skills on the field bring him success, he acknowledges that he plays for an audience of one.
“I play for God,” he said. “I don’t play for expectations of man. I play this game because God has given me the ability to play this game, and doing my best is giving my due diligence back to Him.”
Because of this mindset, the wide receiver brings his best to every game.
In Sunday’s overtime win against the Washington Commanders, Brown “caught nine passes for 175 yards, which was more than any other player in Week 4. Two of his receptions were crucial second-half touchdowns that gave Philadelphia the lead,” Sports Spectrum reported.
He’s “the first Eagles player to have 175+ receiving yards and 2 touchdowns in a game since Jeremy Maclin in 2014. He’s the first to do it at home since Kevin Curtis in 2007,” NBC Sports Philadelphia wrote.
Through his success, he remains humble.
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven,” Brown posted on Instagram, quoting Matthew 5:16.
“We’re still putting it together. Nobody wants to be playing their best football right now,” he told NBC Sports after Sunday’s performance.
“But we’re striving each and every day to fix the little things and head in the right direction. Like I said, we want to play good. Don’t get me wrong. We want to play really well but we don’t want to play our best football right now in October,” Brown added.
“These are moments that we’re learning from, these are experiences that we’re learning from,” he continued. “This was a game in overtime that if it happens again, nobody will blink because we’re put in these tough situations.”
The Eagles are currently 4-0. Catch them on Sunday as they compete against the Los Angeles Rams to hold onto their winning streak.
