Eddie Murphy: ‘I Love Fatherhood’

Family comes first, actor Eddie Murphy says of his 10 children.
“I realized that if you put your children first you never make a bad decision,” the comedian said in a new podcast interview.
“I am going to be 60 in April and I have all these babies,” Murphy continued. “I love fatherhood.”
Murphy recently starred in COMING 2 AMERICA, which contains some strong moral elements celebrating family, positive father-child relationships, doing the right thing, finding true love, and giving equal treatment to daughters and sons, with some talk about honoring one’s country and traditions.
According to what Murphy says, that’s par for the course for his family, as well.
“I am so blessed with my kids,” he said. “I don’t have one bad seed. I don’t have any like ‘Oh you are the one.’ I don’t have any of that. My kids are so great, normal people — and nobody is like the Hollywood jerk kid.”
Murphy has spoken openly about how important his family is before.
“My career, or what I am as an artist, that’s not at the center of my life. At the center of my life is my family and my kids,” Murphy told Vanity Fair in 2020. “That’s the principal relationship, and everything comes after that. I have 10 kids, and I’m present, and I’m part of their lives. You got to have some kind of balance with career and personal life. I started making movies when I was 20, and I auditioned for SNL when I was 18, so that’s 40 years ago. So I had a little crossroads where it was like, It’s time to back off, and sit on the couch and just be Dad.”
Murphy previously appeared in the Movieguide® Award-Nominated movies DREAMGIRLS, SHREK, SHREK 2, SHREK THE THIRD, and SHREK FOREVER AFTER; and other family-friendly movies including IMAGINE THAT and DADDY DAY CARE.
