Producer and pianist Tommee Profitt brings the Nativity story to life through his “The Birth of a King” musical event.
“It’s the story of angels greeting this King who is being born to save the entire world,” Profitt told Fox News Digital. “It’s a story so epic it needed this epic music to go along with it.”
“The Birth of a King” celebrates Christ’s birth through powerful performances by 21 vocalists alongside a 60-piece orchestra, a 100-member choir and a band. The musical extravaganza includes performances from Colton Dixon, Jordan Smith, Evvie McKinney and Sarah Reeves.
“This is a performance I believe that Christians will love and maybe those who are not Christians will love,” Profitt said. “This is a powerful story. I’m hoping it connects with anyone who appreciates powerful storytelling.”
Profitt was initially inspired to create this musical retelling of Jesus’ birth in 2005. Fifteen years later, he collaborated with his favorite artists to create the “Birth of a King” album.
In 2022, Profitt put on the first live performance of “Birth of a King” at the Fisher Center at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. With tickets selling out in under 24 hours, the show was a smashing success thanks to the work of some of the world’s best vocalists. The performance was quickly turned into a live album.
However, the musician was initially hesitant even to create a live album.
“When we first started talking about recording a live version, I was nervous to touch it. The original ‘The Birth of a King’ album wasn’t just any album for me. It was a passion project 15 years in the making…The thought of doing a live version was daunting. With live stuff, you’re jumping into the unknown. You can prep all you want, but until the curtain lifts, you have no idea how it’s going to turn out,” he explained on Instagram.
“But there’s this undeniable magic that happens when you bring songs to life in front of an audience,” Profitt added. “The energy, the rawness, the spontaneous moments – it all came together in a way that feels even more epic, which I didn’t think was possible.”
This year’s production looks to take “Birth of a King” even higher through its performance at the Grand Ole Opry.
“I walked my son out onto the stage at the Grand Ole Opry and he asked if I had always dreamed about playing here,” Profitt said. “I told him, ‘No. This is way beyond anything I ever dreamed possible.”
Profitt hopes this production will help people realize the true meaning of Christmas.
“The powerful message is found in what I believe is the true Christmas story,” he said. “It’s not about hot chocolate, fireplaces and cold weather. There are romantic Christmas songs, there are cozy Christmas songs, and Santa Christmas songs.”
“And then there are the Christmas songs that really matter,” Profitt continued. “And to me, those are the songs about the birth of a King.”
