‘Everybody’s Happy’: Mark Wahlberg Talks Family’s Move To Nevada

By Movieguide® Contributor

Mark Wahlberg says his family is “happy” and “thriv[ing]” after their move to Nevada in 2022.

“It’s a place where my kids can thrive and do their thing and pursue their interests,” the actor said of the family’s new home in Las Vegas. “Everybody’s adapted nicely. The kids are all out at school, and everybody’s happy.”

Wahlberg has previously spoken about his decision to move to Las Vegas, telling PEOPLE that he wants to make the city “Hollywood 2.0.”

“There’s lots of opportunity for growth here,” the actor told Fox News. “And the government, especially our new governor, is really looking for opportunities to create jobs outside of gaming. So we’re looking to create 10,000 jobs on the studio alone. The average salary would be $100,000 more than what it is now. We want to train people both in front of and behind the camera, create jobs, most importantly, first and foremost, for locals.”

In an interview with PEOPLE, Wahlberg shared that they made the move to “give [his] kids a better life,” explaining that his children’s interests in equestrianship, basketball and golf could be more easily pursued in Las Vegas.

“This made a lot more sense for us,” he explained. “[We] came here to just kind of give ourselves a new look, a fresh start for the kids, and there’s lots of opportunity here. I’m really excited about the future.”

Moving to Las Vegas hasn’t hindered Wahlberg’s acting career. His most recent movie, ARTHUR THE KING, just released in theaters.

The movie follows “An adventure racer [who] adopts a stray dog named Arthur to join him in an epic endurance race.”

Director Simon Cellan Jones told Movieguide® why ARTHUR THE KING should be seen in theaters.

“I think one thing I’ve found watching this movie with an audience sort of multiplies everything because I think those shared emotions and those shared realizations are very infectious and very compelling to people,” Jones told Movieguide®. “So, yeah, I’d love younger people to get out there and see the movie.”

Part of Movieguide®’s review reads:

ARTHUR THE KING is a feel-good movie that will make audiences want to go along for the ride. It has a strong moral, redemptive worldview. It stresses love, laying down your life for someone else, and helping weaker people. All the characters must learn to give up their pride and work together. Sadly, however, ARTHUR THE KING has lots of PG-13 foul language. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution especially for older children and other media-wise viewers.

Movieguide® previously reported on Wahlberg’s commitment to putting family first:

Mark Wahlberg is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, but he recently shared that he’s been thinking about stepping away from the spotlight.

When asked about when he might retire from acting, Wahlberg said, “Sooner rather than later, probably.”

The main reason he’s considering retirement? His children. Wahlberg said that being away from his kids for long stretches of time is hard on him.

“[A project’s] gotta be something special to really bring me, you know, to leave home, to leave those guys behind,” Wahlberg said. “Because it’s the biggest sacrifice in the making for sure.”
