Everything We Know About INCREDIBLES 3
By Movieguide® Contributor
INCREDIBLES 3 is officially in development!
“Pixar chief Pete Docter made the announcement on Friday during Disney’s epic presentation of its upcoming projects at the D23 Expo,” Variety reported, adding that Docter “provided no further information about the project” and that “no release date has been set.”
Brad Bird, who wrote and directed the Teddy Bear Award®-winning INCREDIBLES and INCREDIBLES 2, which was nominated for a Teddy Bear Award®, will return for the franchise’s third installment.
In a 2018 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bird spoke about the potential for a third movie.
“We storyboarded, and we designed characters, and they’re really good! Some of them were really funny and cool and explored certain things,” he shared. “You know, you never say never, because there might be an opportunity to use it. Maybe the idea shows up in a different film.”
Bird continued, “There were a lot of ideas that we had on this film that could be [used]…whether it’s another INCREDIBLES film, or something else.”
Not much is known about INCREDIBLES 3, but lead actors Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Vowell and Samuel L. Jackson are expected to reprise their roles.
Jackson, who voices Frozone/Lucius, has previously spoken about his desire to continue appearing in INCREDIBLES movies, saying, “[An origin story] would be cool, to know why Lucius is this lovable uncle figure, and how long he and Bob have known each other and what kind of things did they get into?”
Movieguide® previously reported on INCREDIBLES 3:
During the D23 Expo on Friday, Disney announced that an INCREDIBLES 3 film is in the works, and writer/director Brad Bird will return.
“As you can see, we have some ‘Incredibles’ projects. That’s right, we’re making INCREDIBLES 3,” Pixar chief Pete Docter announced during his presentation at D23.
While fans long speculated about a third movie, nothing definitive had been shared.
In 2018, Bird told Deadline of a third installment, “I would rather say I’m not closed to it, but it’s not on my mind. It’s like, the last thing you want to do after swimming in the ocean for a month is go for a swim. I need to do something else for a while, and we’ll see what the future has in store.”
