Everything We Know About Upcoming BLUE BLOODS Spinoff
By Movieguide® Contributor
Ever since the news of the BLUE BLOODS cancellation broke, fans have been theorizing a spinoff was in the works. CBS proved their hunch correct, announcing a sequel show is coming later this year.
Operating under the title BOSTON BLUE, the show will move location to Boston and primarily follow Donnie Wahlberg’s character Danny Reagan along with a new cast.
“In BOSTON BLUE, a universe expansion of the long-running top drama BLUE BLOODS, Wahberg will reprise his role as NYPD officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD,” a logline for the show reads, per Screen Rant. “Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Peters, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”
Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis will be showrunners and executive producers. Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed will also executive produce.
While the announcement of the spinoff is exciting, some fans may still be bitter with CBS after the cancellation of BLUE BLOODS, something that the fans, showrunners and actors did not want. All three groups felt there was more story to tell, and they did everything they could to keep the show on air, but ultimately CBS decided to cut it.

Despite continuing the BLUE BLOODS universe as the primary character, even Wahlberg laments the ending of the show and wished CBS had decided to act differently.
“I think one of the things we haven’t really talked about is having worked so long with the crew that we had in New York City,” he told Fox News. “I personally — and I’m sure some of the other castmates — felt bad. I felt sad. Like, we tried to keep the show going. We tried to help the show carry on, and we couldn’t. We couldn’t do it. You know, we did everything we could, everything in our power, to have the show carry on.”
“That was tough. That was tough to process, you know,” Wahlberg added. “And I know the crew wouldn’t feel that way. But in some ways, we just kept sort of believing we would keep the show going. When that finale ended, it was kind of like reality hit us all. It was definitely a part of it, a bit of like, ‘Gosh, you know, if we could have just kept going a few more years, you know?’”
Nonetheless, fans of the series now have BOSTON BLUE to keep up with the characters. The series is currently slated for its first episodes to air during the 2025-2026 TV season.
