‘Finally!’: WHEN CALLS THE HEART Cast on That Long-Awaited Moment

WHEN CALLS THE HEART’s Erin Krakow and Kevin McGarry are giving all the details following their characters’ first kiss. Warning: spoilers ahead!
“I think it was Elizabeth’s turn to finally tell him what I think everybody [has been] waiting to hear [since] three seasons ago when Nathan did it,” McGarry told Entertainment Tonight, referring to Elizabeth’s love confession.
Krakow chimed in, saying that Elizabeth was going through a “journey of self-discovery…to kind of figure out what she really wanted.”
“Finally, there was this moment in episode 11 where Elizabeth realized life is short. We have just experienced this hostage situation, it’s time to move, and she could feel that Nathan needed that clarity from her before he was able to take a step forward again,” the actress continued. “She had to get some things off her chest.”
Nathan’s reaction? To finally kiss Elizabeth.
“Five seasons coming, we finally got that moment!” McGarry said.
So, what’s next for the characters?
“I think both of them will go back to the roots of being helpers and protectors of the town, and they’ll combine their strengths,” McGarry shared. “That will dictate a lot of the storyline of those two characters going forward.”
Krakow added, “Getting to see them starting to combine their families in some ways…I think there will be some lovely moments there.”
“We have spent so much time seeing them as friends,” she continued. “We had this very slow burn for Season 11, so we have only just had the opportunity to see them as a new couple briefly, so I think let’s explore what that looks like for a while. Let’s see them getting to know each other as boyfriend-girlfriend.”
In an interview with TV Guide, the co-stars elaborated on what fans can expect from upcoming episodes.
“What Episode 12 offers the fans is a glimpse into the future of what this relationship is going to be,” McGarry said. “Because they’ve built their relationship early on trust, love, and friendship, it really falls into this easy partnership.”
The cast of WHEN CALLS THE HEART is already looking ahead to Season 12, which starts filming soon.
In a statement about the renewal, Krakow, who also serves as an executive producer on the show, said, “We are proud to tell stories that warm hearts in homes around the world and so grateful to Hallmark for being such champions of that positivity. Having the Hearties’ support over the past decade has been a true testament to what this show is all about: community and love. We cannot wait for our fans to see what Hope Valley has in store!”

Hallmark’s WHEN CALLS THE HEART will be back for a twelfth season, and it looks like everyone’s favorite historical drama won’t disappoint.
A premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, but TV Insider estimates a release next year. The Direct added it will likely be in spring or early summer 2025.
All the season’s regulars are expected to make a return, while no new characters have been announced yet.
