FROZEN Co-Director Updates Fans on Third Installment

FROZEN 3 is still in the very early stages of development, but Disney Animation chief creative officer Jennifer Lee shared that she is already blown away by the movie’s direction.

“Every morning last week they carved out space for me to work with the creative team on it, and I am blown away and I am so excited,” Lee said at the BFI London Film Festival. “I don’t know what I’m doing on it yet, I’m not doing nothing—except doing what I do now, which is we work on every project as a team and I’m in there with creative.”

While some fans worry that Disney is milking the franchise because the company is desperate for a win, Lee promises they will only stick with FROZEN as long as the story has more to give.

“Our philosophy is this, and it won’t change: If there is more story to tell, the filmmakers have to drive it. And I’ll say with FROZEN, Marc Smith, who was our directory of story on FROZEN 2, came with an incredible idea for more FROZEN, and it’s worth it,” she explained.

Disney’s return to FROZEN could help the company return to creating family-friendly and moral content.

The first two movies are rooted in Christian values and teach biblical lessons. A portion of Movieguide®’s review for Movieguide® Award winner FROZEN reads:

FROZEN is one of Disney’s most entertaining, inspiring movies. It shows love isn’t about lust, but sacrifice. Elsa learns there’s a right and wrong. She also learns you can’t isolate yourself, but must help others. FROZEN has a very strong redemptive, moral worldview. It also has incredible animation and wonderful songs, with plot twists that advance the story in positive directions. FROZEN not only has an uplifting worldview, great story, and incredible animation. It’s also very funny.

The second movie followed this up with another lesson on love and redemption.

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of FROZEN 2 reads:

FROZEN II provides exceptional, funny, exciting entertainment, with powerful plot points, great animation and a beautiful soundtrack. The movie has a somewhat allegorical Christian, moral worldview. It exalts sacrifice, doing the right thing, friendship, marriage, prayer, and knowing truth. Media-wise viewers will also appreciate how the characters combat fear with love. FROZEN II contains magic, spiritism and politically correct elements, but the redemptive elements eventually take precedence. A few scenes in FROZEN II might scare some younger children. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for young viewers.

Given that many of the same storytellers and moviemakers are now working on FROZEN 3, the franchise will hopefully continue to hold firm to biblical values.

This is especially true as Lee’s excellence in creating family-friendly movies comes from being a mother—something that doesn’t change with time.

Movieguide® previously reported:

In June 2018, Jennifer Lee became the first female chief creative officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios and has made creative waves ever since.

Lee earned her first Oscar as director for FROZEN, which Movieguide® also celebrated as the Best Movie for Families in 2013. Lee also worked on popular Disney movies like FROZEN II, WRECK-IT RALPH, and ZOOTOPIA. Each of these movies have strong family themes that dominate their plots…

On top of her successful career, Lee balances life at home with her husband, SPIDER-MAN actor Alfred Molina, and her daughter, Agatha Lee Monn.
