GAC Family To Air K-9 HERO AWARDS: ‘There Are So Many Hero Dogs That Deserve Honor and Recognition’
By Movieguide® Staff
GAC Family recently announced that their network would be home to the 2022 K-9 HERO AWARDS airing on May 12.
The K-9 HERO AWARDS, hosted by Larissa Wohl and U.S. Army Veteran and certified K-9 Trainer James Craigmyle, honors America’s top-performing police and military K-9 heroes.
The special, created by Project K-9 Hero, will premiere on GAC Family on Thursday, May 12, at 5 p.m. E.T.
“There are so many hero dogs that deserve honor and recognition,” K-9 HERO AWARDS website reads. “Although there are award programs for a broad array of hero dogs, we saw a need for an award program exclusively focused on the merits of Police K-9s, Military Working Dogs, Fire Department K-9s, and Search and Rescue K-9s.”
“We will be awarding K-9 Heroes in seven categories: Patrol Apprehension | Narcotics Detection | Explosives Detection | Firearms Detection | Search and Rescue | Accelerant Detection | Tracking,” the announcement continued.
According to Trevor Decker News, eligible service dogs include Police K-9s, Military Working Dogs, Fire Department K-9s, and Search and Rescue K-9s.
Project K-9 Hero founder Jason Johnson said in a recent video announcement: “We’re a national non-profit that helps retired police K-9s and military working dogs with medical care, food, and death benefit assistance, once they leave service.”
“What most people don’t know is that when a police K-9 or a military working dog is no longer serving their country or their community, that no public funds are set aside to help them with their retirement,” he continued.
Each winner will receive free food, free medical care and other benefits to help service dogs in their retirement.
