Trevor Donovan, Jen Lilley and Jesse Hutch are starring in Great American Family’s modern retelling of Little Women — with a Christmas twist.
A LITTLE WOMEN’S CHRISTMAS is a “contemporary retelling of the beloved classic [that] follows the lives of the March sisters in a small Tennessee town at Christmas,” a synopsis reads.
It stars “Jillian Murray (CODE BLACK and any number of other Christmas movies) as Jo March, Trevor Donovan (90210) as Friedrich ‘Fritz’ Baehr, Jen Lilley (DAYS OF OUR LIVES) as Meg March, Hallmark movie vet Laura Osnes as Beth March, Julia Reilly (GRITZ?) as Amy March and Jesse Hutch (BATWOMAN) as John,” TVLine reported.
The movie is set to air during the fourth annual Great American Christmas. Variety said, “Previously announced other titles for their 2024 holiday slate include AURORA CHRISTMAS, A CHRISTMAS LESS TRAVELED, LOVE AT THE KETTLE, MY GROWN-UP CHRISTMAS WISH, A ROYAL CHRISTMAS BALL and A VINTAGE CHRISTMAS.”
“A LITTLE WOMEN’S CHRISTMAS is a new Christmas classic in the making, with an incredible ensemble cast and an adaptation of an original story that is one of the best I have read,” GAF CEO Bill Abbott said. “Louisa May Alcott was intentional about focusing on the culture of young women, their hopes, ambitions, and dreams, and it remains one of the most widely read and beloved stories ever written.”
Little Women was first published in two parts in 1868 and 1869. Since then, it’s been adapted to the big screen several times.
The first adaptation premiered nearly 100 years ago in 1933, starring Katharine Hepburn.
Elizabeth Taylor and Janet Leigh led the first color adaptation in 1949.
“In 1994, Gillian Armstrong directed a large ensemble led by Winona Ryder, Kirsten Dunst, Claire Danes, Susan Sarandon, Christian Bale and others, which landed three Oscar nominations,” Variety shared. Movieguide® awarded it a +3 content score.
2019’s LITTLE WOMEN, starring Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Timothee Chalamet and Florence Pugh, earned a +2 content rating from Movieguide®. Part of the review reads:
Although it’s long, LITTLE WOMEN is a delightful movie filled with minor crises and family tensions that are resolved with prayer, compassion and love. The good triumphs, making the movie a delight. The filming is Oscar worthy, so is the direction and acting. Even hardhearted critics at the screening loved the movie despite its strong Christian faith content. LITTLE WOMEN is a picture of America and New England in the 1860s when it was a homogeneous society with a highly developed Christian culture that assumed faith and values.
