Garth Brooks Grateful for Wife Trisha Yearwood: ‘She Makes it Fun’

While on THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW, country singer Garth Brooks revealed that he is most grateful for his marriage to his wife, Trisha Yearwood.

“Yeah, well, when you’re married to one of the greatest cooks on the planet,” he said when Clarkson asked what he is most grateful for. “Well, we’ll talk about how great of a singer she is. That’s probably five and six on her list of top 10 things to do.”

“When it comes to the future, I think what you’re grateful for is just one more day, right? Of getting to do this,” continued the singer, who has been a country music star since the ’90s.

“So I think that’s it. What I’d love to say is that day I take my last breath on this planet, I’d love for my three girls to be around me, and I’d love for the queen to be around me,” he added, continuing to think about the future.

Brooks and Yearwood met in 1987 and collaborated for 18 years before getting married in 2005.

“But as far as Miss Yearwood…you know, I’ve said this before, I found her in the past life, I’ll find her in the next,” Brooks said.

“She makes it fun. She makes it really fun,” he added.

Along with making music together, the couple has devoted much of their time and resources to charity. Last month, they hosted the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, through which 27 affordable homes were built for families in Charlotte, North Carolina.

“After [Hurricane Katrina], we fell in love with Habitat for Humanity. We knew we loved the Carters and we fell more in love with them just getting a chance to work alongside them. We love what Habitat for Humanity is about: spreading love. It is about creating community,” Yearwood told PEOPLE.

“[The Carters] have inspired us in a lot of way, in the ways you expect: humanity, humbleness, work ethic. But they’ve also inspired us by their example as husband and wife,” Brooks added. “We worked beside them for the last 15 years, and you notice right away they bicker back and forth about the right way to do things. That kind of works for us too!”

The couple also uses their charity work as a platform to spread the Gospel. During their project earlier this year, they provided members of the community with access to Bibles.

Habitat for Humanity helps low-income families afford new homes. Each new Habitat for Humanity homeowner is given a Bible along with their house keys. This year, Brooks and Yearwood will hand those out instead of the Carters.

Brooks shared why he believes the Bible is an important part of the tradition.

“The blessing is they’re getting freedom to move into their own house. With that, it’s going to become trials, even though there’s good celebration it becomes trials,” Brooks told CBN. “If you’ve got that Bible, you’ve always got that foundation you can start over. If you’re at rock bottom, there’s the Bible. If you’re on top, there’s the Bible.”

“I think it’s as much a foundation as the floor you’re standing on in your house,” Brooks finished.
