‘God is Bigger Than Disney’: Gina Carano Talks Wrongful Termination Lawsuit
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actress Gina Carano is reflecting on how she relies on her faith to see her through hard times.
“I feel like God has just kind of put me in this very unique existence of situations that don’t seem to normally happen to people,” she said while appearing on “The Babylon Bee Podcast.”
Carano was fired from Disney’s THE MANDALORIAN for sharing her opinions on topics like COVID-19 vaccines and the 2020 election on social media. Last month, the actress sued Disney and Lucasfilm for discrimination and wrongful termination.
“I wanted [justice] so badly, but then it was kind of a very humbling experience,” Carano said of her “cancellation.” “Because….you have to be grateful for where you’re at, be grateful you’re alive, and give it to Him completely. It might not look like justice to you, but He’s working on it behind the scenes, and you don’t know what He’s doing.”
The actress said she was “really grateful” for everything she’s gone through, adding, “I feel like God’s really kind of used my life to possibly take some sting off a very painful time that we’ve all been through in the last four years. People out there didn’t feel so alone in what they were going through, and I think when it comes down to that, then it’s all been worth it.”
“I kept on telling myself, ‘God is bigger than Disney,’” Carano concluded.
Carano has also opened up about the experience and her ongoing legal battle in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“If the unforgivable sin in Hollywood is being a person who wouldn’t perfectly conform at a time when emotions were running wild in the world, then that’s probably not a Hollywood I’ll ever belong to,” she shared. “But I think once egos are put aside, Hollywood has the opportunity to grow just like we all do.”
Movieguide® previously reported on Carano’s thoughts on “cancel culture”:
“I understand when people are fired,” she said. “But when a company’s preaching about being inclusive to all people, and they’re not, they’re just telling one side of the story, and they’re just telling … they’re alienating half of, if not more, the country, I think that we’ve run into a big problem.”
“In my case, I don’t think that anything I did deserved cancel culture,” Carano continued. “I don’t think that it deserved being smeared by the Hollywood press. But I understand now how that machine works. You can’t just act a fool with your employer. I don’t think that was the case [with me]. But I do feel like people are speaking up [for] my case.”
Despite efforts to “cancel” Carano, the actress and former MMA fighter is still working in the entertainment industry. She recently signed with Straightwire Entertainment Group and has many movie and TV projects in the works.
“I feel relieved to push the refresh button in signing on with Rob [Weston, CEO of Straightwire Entertainment Group] and I am as ambitious as ever in this new chapter of my life and career,” Carano said of the partnership.
She continued, “We are already actively working on a new television series that I am ecstatic about that is unlike anything I’ve done thus far and are actively attracting creatives from all over who are excited to collaborate.”
