Only one day after his 80th birthday, GOLD RUSH: WHITE WATER star “Dakota” Fred Hurt died on Tuesday, July 11, after a battle with cancer.

“Hurt lived only four months after he was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer. The family’s Facebook post saluted him as a man who ‘touched many lives and was loved and supported by many,’” Deadline reported

Just one week ago, Hurt’s Facebook page posted a photo of Hunt at a 4th of July parade.

Always an adventurer, Hurt started out as a commercial diver and then became a construction company owner before he turned to gold mining. Hurt appeared in Discovery Channel’s GOLD RUSH and its several spin-off series.

“I’ve lived a full 80 years of an interesting life. If I emerge from this dark diagnosis, I’ll have another adventure to share with you folks,” Hurt said in a recent press release.

GOLD RUSH’s Instagram page posted: “The Gold Rush family is deeply saddened to learn of Fred Hurt’s passing. His joy for life and adventure was contagious. We share our heartfelt condolences with his family, friends, and all who loved him.”

“The fan favorite started his gold-mining career in North Dakota, building a family legacy before co-starring in GOLD RUSH: SOUTH AMERICA, GOLD RUSH: THE LEGEND OF PORCUPINE CREEK and the spin-off series GOLD RUSH: WHITE WATER with his son, veteran miner Dustin Hurt,” The Los Angeles Times reported

Movieguide® previously reported on another GOLD RUSH star, Todd Hoffman, and his desire to reflect his faith in his new gold mining show: “’We think we have something to share where our faith can shine through,’ Hoffman said.”

Movieguide® asks for prayer for Hurt’s friends and family in this difficult time.
