Greg Laurie Encourages ‘Cultural Christians’ to Take This Step

By Movieguide® Contributor

Pastor Greg Laurie is encouraging “cultural Christians” to take the next step and establish a relationship with Christ.

In a video posted to his social media, Laurie addressed statements made by Elon Musk and Richard Dawkins, where they referred to themselves as cultural Christians.

“While I’m not a particularly religious person, I do believe that the teachings of Jesus are good and wise…I would say I’m probably a cultural Christian,” the tech CEO said in an interview with Jordan Peterson. “I’m actually a big believer in the principles of Christianity. I think they’re very good.”

Dawkins, a self-proclaimed atheist, made a similar statement, telling LBCNews, “I call myself a cultural Christian. I’m not a believer, but there’s a distinction between being a believing Christian and being a cultural Christian…I love hymns and Christmas carols, and I sort of feel at home in the Christian ethos.”

“These men are acknowledging the positive effect that Christianity has had in the world, the positive effect that Christianity has on a nation, and the positive effect that Christianity has on a person,” Laurie said in his video. “So in a way, it’s an acknowledgment of the reality of the truth of the Christian message, the truth of the biblical message, the truth of Christ.”

He continued, “When someone says they’re a cultural Christian, especially an avowed atheist like Dawkins, or a man of such great influence and innovation and creativity as Elon Musk, I think it’s a step in the right direction, and I would encourage both of them — and anybody else who identifies himself as a cultural Christian — to come into a relationship with Christ himself. That’s what Christianity is.”

“Being a real Christian, which means having Christ in your life, that’s the ultimate answer,” Laurie concluded, asking viewers to pray for Musk, Dawkins and “anybody else that is truly searching for truth…that they will find that relationship with God.”

Movieguide® previously reported on comments Musk has made about Christianity:

Entrepreneur and business mogul Elon Musk, best known for electric car company Tesla and SpaceX, recently said that he thought the teachings of Jesus were important for society.

In a candid interview with the popular Christian satire site The Babylon Bee, Musk was prompted to give his life to Jesus. While the interviewers were jesting, Musk obliged their question by sharing his opinion on Jesus.

“Final question to pull some time out here, Babylon Bee is a Christian organization and we’re a ministry,” said Ethan Nicolle.

Musk joked: “How come we’re doing the show on a Sunday? Why aren’t you heathens in church? God said don’t work on Sundays, OK. You guys are going straight to Hell for this one.”

Nicolle continued: “To make this Church, we’re wondering if you could do us a quick solid and accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior?”

Musk said that he acknowledges and respects Christ’s teachings.

“Things like turn the other cheek are very important, as opposed to an eye for an eye. An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind,” Musk maintained.

Musk also noted that forgiveness was also important.
