Singer Gwen Stefani shared her story of faith, which began by going to church with her family, in a special collaboration with the Christian prayer app Hallow.
“I didn’t go to college, I lived at home with my family until I was 26 years old, so I still had my routine through my 20s of going to church with my family,” the No Doubt lead singer said in an Instagram post.
Stefani explained how as her music career took off, she fell away from her faith.
“Then came a time in my life where I felt like I was losing everything, my emotional and my mental stress from my situation quickly turned into physical pain, like a physical illness, chronic pain that prevented me from doing daily, ordinary things, and I was so scared,” she confessed.
Stefani knew that the answer to her problem was God, and she made the decision to surrender her life to Him.
“Feeling so desperate, I got on my knees. I asked God, ‘Please, please get me well. Please use my gift of music again. Please let me be the person I used to be,'” she recalled praying. “I began returning to daily prayer, trusting that God had a purpose for me, knowing that I needed to serve God. A lot of amazing changes in my life have happened for free, and my faith has carried me.”
People rallied in the comment section, thankful for God’s work in Stefani’s story.
“Jesus is the way to healing, deliverance, and freedom! May He continue the good work in your life!” one user said. Another person added, “So grateful for your conversion! Jesus is the only truly healer! God bless you!”

The pop star has been very open about her faith in recent years. Previously, she told PEOPLE, “It’s literally schedule, schedule, schedule. [But] there is a balance. For me, the only way that I’ve gotten this far is with my spiritual faith and being able to take time out to pray. You see the miracles, and that’s inspiration and fuel to keep it going.”
Today Stefani is married to country artist Blake Shelton. Recently the couple had the opportunity to sing together, and they also collaborated on Shelton’s May 9 album For Recreational Use Only. He revealed that “I don’t feel like I want to make a record without a duet with Gwen on it anymore. She’s my favorite person to sing with.”
He also mentioned how Stefani would love to have a family band someday.
“That would be a lot of fun. I know that that would be Gwen’s dream come true is to have, like, a family band or something like that,” he said.
