Hallmark Announces Four New Movies Inspired by Jane Austen

Hallmark is honoring Jane Austen with a month of original movies inspired by the author’s works coming this February.
“Jane Austen’s stories are timeless and continue to resonate with readers and viewers of all ages,” Lisa Hamilton Daly, Executive Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Media, said in a press release about the “Loveuary with Jane Austen” event. “Our movies will bring her beloved characters to life in fresh, new ways and honor the many women who continue to be inspired by them.”
“Loveuary with Jane Austen” will begin Feb. 3 and feature four new movies.
“Celebrate the timeless love of Jane Austen all February with ‘Loveuary with Jane Austen,’” the network posted on Instagram, adding that each movie will air every Sunday at 8/7c.
PAGING MR. DARCY is the first movie to premiere. It tells the story of how “a love of Austen’s stories helps two people to overcome their pride and admit to their belief in love,” per PEOPLE. It stars Mallory Jansen and Will Kemp.
LOVE AND JANE (starring Alison Sweeney and Benjamin Ayres) is about a woman who “quite literally” received guidance from Jane Austen, while AN AMERICAN IN AUSTEN focuses on “a librarian who thinks that no man can live up to Mr. Darcy [and] gets an unexpected chance to find out if that’s true.” It stars Eliza Bennett, Nicholas Bishop and Nell Barlow.
The Jane Austen tribute will conclude with an adaptation of the writer’s SENSE & SENSIBILITY, starring Deborah Ayorinde, Bethany Antonia, Dan Jeannotte and Akil Largie.
Hallmark is also launching a virtual book club “where fans will discuss this season’s Loveuary premieres, the legacy of Jane Austen, and the importance of female-focused storytelling,” the network wrote on their website.
Hallmark invites participants to read “Pride & Prejudice” and “Sense & Sensibility” before the club’s first meeting in January.
