Is a New POWER RANGERS Show in the Works? Here’s What We Know
By Movieguide® Contributor
A new POWER RANGERS show is in the works for Disney+, bringing back a beloved franchise that has been dormant for years.
Hasbro, who owns the rights to the Power Rangers, brought on Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz to write, showrun and produce the live-action series for Disney+.
“Power Rangers is an iconic brand built on a heritage of great storytelling and merchandising with tremendous upside potential when fully executed across Hasbro’s Brand Blueprint,” Hasrbo’s chief executive officer, Brian Goldner said in 2019 when Hasbro acquired the franchise. “Shortly after entering into our licensing agreement, it became clear that now was the time to begin investing in unlocking Power Rangers’ full potential.”
“25 years after launching Power Rangers, I believe the future for this brand has never been greater,” creator Haim Saban added at the time of the deal. “Hasbro’s leadership in innovation, storytelling and brand stewardship make it the perfect company to further develop the global reach and appeal of the Power Rangers property. I look forward to working with Brian and the team in the years to come.”
This vision for the future is now coming to fruition despite Hasbro selling a major portion of its production capabilities when its studio eOne was purchased by Liongate. However, since the sale went through, Hasbro has focused its efforts on its major IP, continuing to produce PEPPA PIG and MY LITTLE PONY, while also making plans to produce MONOPOLY and CLUE movies in addition to G.I JOE and PLAY-DOH.

While the plans for the new POWER RANGERS show is full steam ahead, Hasbro will likely have to choose a production partner to create the show, as after the sale of eOne, they shifted their model to rely heavily on partners.
“Entertainment remains a priority for Hasbro. Hasbro will continue to develop and produce entertainment based on the rich vault of Hasbro-owned brands. We will also bring to life new original ideas designed to fuel all areas of Hasbro’s blueprint including toys, publishing, gaming, licensed consumer products, and location-based entertainment,” Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks said in August 2023. “As part of the sale, we expect to move to an asset-lite model for future live action entertainment, relying on licensing and partnerships with select co-productions.”
