Helen Smallbone recently penned a personal essay for The Christian Post about her family, including her children Rebecca Fink, aka Rebecca St. James, and Joel and Luke Smallbone of for KING & COUNTRY.

“People are curious how these two entities came out of one family and how we all came to be who and what we are today,” Smallbone wrote. “They want to know how it is we’ve worked and stayed together through obstacles and detours most ‘normal’ families don’t encounter. There isn’t one response I can think to give.”

She continued, “Our journey has been filled with a variety of faith-stretching occurrences that could only have been orchestrated by God, both in their inceptions and in His miraculous outcomes. But for me, as a mum who loves Jesus, I am convinced that nothing we have accomplished or overcome would have happened without His divine intervention and our commitment to follow His lead, regardless of how unusual or against the flow His plan seemed.”

The Smallbone family came to the U.S. from Australia 30 years ago. Though they initially encountered extreme poverty, they soon began to flourish.

“The faithfulness and favor God has shown me — shown all of us — is the same faithfulness He shows to anyone who fully commits their life to Him,” she continued. “It is my hope that from our story, you will be inspired to step outside of your box and embrace God’s plans for you without fear or hesitation. When you do, His peace will carry you no matter what you face, the same way it has carried me.”

Smallbone also discussed her work with MUMlife Community, a ministry that sees older mothers partner with younger ones to give them support and guidance.

She has also written a book, Behind the Lights: The Extraordinary Adventure of a Mum and Her Family, and started recording podcast episodes for MUMlife.

“It doesn’t matter what age you are,” Smallbone explained. “God not only has a plan for your life but also a purpose. You may be in the prime of youth, or you may be older like David [her husband] and me. If you still have breath in your lungs, then God is not finished with you — you have meaningful contributions to make to your family, your church, and your community.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Smallbone’s famous sons, Luke and Joel Smallbone, who recently used their platform as musical stars in for KING & COUNTRY to raise money for Ukrainian refugees:

Christian band for KING & COUNTRY has partnered with humanitarian organization Convoy of Hope to raise over $150,000 for victims of the Ukrainian invasion.

Brothers Luke and Joel Smallbone hosted a free online concert earlier this month from the Mojave Desert in California. More than 300,000 people attended the virtual show as the group played songs from their latest album, What Are We Waiting For?

In an interview with Fox & Friends, the Smallbones said that the idea for the concert came from some advice that their father had given them when they were young.

“He said, ‘When people are in need, you help.’ You know, everybody can play a part, everybody can do something. For us, this is our way to hopefully help people that are being displaced, that are going through incredibly difficult things as we speak,” Luke shared.

The brothers were not expecting such a massive amount of money to be raised.

“We sort of said we are not going to put a price tag on this thing. We thought maybe 50 grand. So, for our supporters to show up with 150 grand and counting is just incredible,” Joel said.

Convoy of Hope was overjoyed to receive the funds for KING & COUNTRY raised.

Hal Donaldson, the head of the organization, said, “The money they are helping raise will bring much-needed relief to people inside Ukraine and refugees in surrounding countries.”

“Convoy of Hope is incredibly blessed by this partnership with for KING & COUNTRY,” he continued. “I truly appreciate Joel and Luke’s hearts for the work that Convoy of Hope does and their desire to relieve the suffering of Ukrainians. The money they have helped, and continue to help raise, will bring much-needed relief to people inside Ukraine and refugees in the countries surrounding it.”
