Forget New Year’s Resolutions — What About New Year’s Prayers?
By Movieguide® Contributor
FIXER TO FABULOUS star Jenny Marrs is lining up her New Year’s prayers.
“I’m spending this second morning of the new year wrapped in a warm blanket, steaming mug in hand, recording prayers for 2025,” Marrs said on Instagram on Jan. 2. “Rather than New Year’s resolutions, which are based on my own will-power and grit, I record specific prayers for the coming year.”
“This is something I’ve done for the past several years,” she continued, “and l’ve found that as I pray the prayers throughout the year, they redirect my heart, attitude and actions to the One who authors my story in ways I could never begin to hope or imagine on my own. 🤍”
Organic Christian Living blogger Kristy Iskander agrees with Marrs and explains why it’s better to have prayers instead of resolutions:
Why is it that we all want to stick with our resolutions, but we never seem to be able to?
It’s because we depend merely on ourselves to accomplish them! For some reason, we tend to sort aspects of our lives into two categories: Things that are significant to God (health concerns, who to marry, events that cause us pain, etc.), [and] Things that are insignificant to God (your plans for the weekend, where to vacation, your resolution list, etc.).
What we fail to realize is that to God, there is no insignificant aspect of our lives.
God wants us to come to him with our smallest details and struggles.
“He wants to hear it all!” Iskander writes. “He doesn’t expect you to work on (and overcome) anything in your life on your own, or in your own strength and power. He wants to help you! God loves you so much that He cares about every one of your goals, and He will help you accomplish them if they are part of His will. And, if they are not part of His perfect will for you, He will redirect you to something better that He has planned for you. God wants to be included in every aspect of our lives, even our New Year’s resolutions.”

Besides keeping a list of prayers for the new year, Jenny and her family are celebrating the holiday with a vacation in Italy. Jenny shared many clips from the trip, including snaps with loved ones, fireworks and a visit to the largest Christmas market in central Italy.
“I’ve long been saving airline miles like the golden treasures they are (we cashed in Dave’s account this summer). A month ago, I decided ‘why keep saving instead of just taking the trip?!’ So, we took the trip,” Jenny explained.
“We are visiting one of our very favorite places and some of our very favorite people and I quite honestly can’t think of a better way to end 2024 and begin 2025,” she said. “This is the place where we all feel so welcome – at home outside of our home – where we can exhale and be ourselves and experience the magic that comes with letting life unfold unhurried and unplanned. It wasn’t easy to make this trip happen but it was wholly, absolutely worth it. 🤍 Buon anno, amici! 🎊”
