HGTV Star Remembers Daughter’s Adoption Journey: ‘God Carried [Her] Home’
By Movieguide® Contributor
HGTV star Jenny Marrs is reminiscing on her daughter Sylvie’s adoption story — and how it played a special part in a JJ Heller music video.
“Months ago, when @jjhellermusic shared her newest song, Love It Here, with me, I was standing in a construction site surrounded by crew and subcontractors,” Marrs wrote in a recent Instagram post. “We had a brief break while the camera operators set their cameras down so I clicked open the text and hit the ‘play’ button. Every sound on that job site faded away as JJ’s melodic voice filled the air. Tears pooled in my eyes as l listened. Her words captured the heartbreak, the sorrow, the hope and the sheer joy of our years-long journey to adopt our daughter.”
Marrs shared that Heller had asked if she could use the family’s “personal videos” for the music video for her song “Love It Here,” and they quickly said yes.
“This video is now a treasure for our family,” she said. “I also pray that it is an encouragement for every momma longing and praying desperate, pleading prayers for their own miracle story.”
Marrs continued, “As I rewatched this video, I remembered, years ago, as I would lie beside her at bedtime, rubbing her back and reassuring her that I was here and she is safe, she would whisper the same words night after night: ‘God carried me home, momma.’”
“Indeed He did,” she wrote. “He knew that our little family would never have been complete without her. And He knew that this crazy world of ours desperately needs her to shine her brilliantly bright, beautifully radiant light. This video, out in the world, is another example of that light shining bright.”
Marrs often speaks about Sylvie’s adoption process and how it impacted their family.

Jenny added, “adoption is a part of our family. It’s a part of our story, but they’re all just our kids.”
Heller has previously spoken about writing “Love It Here” and how special each adoption journey is.
“It’s such a gift to share all the things you love with a new family member, whether that child comes to you through adoption or you’re bringing your biological baby home from the hospital. It’s not that your home or life is perfect, but it’s beautiful… and will be made even more so when you experience it with your child,” the singer-songwriter wrote on Instagram.
She continued, “I know every adoption journey is different and nuanced and inherently comes with heartbreak. And even though this is not my story, I hope this song gives words to the sacred act of welcoming a child home.”
