How Brandon Potter Relates to His Character on THE CHOSEN

By Movieguide® Contributor

Brandon Potter explained how he relates to his character, Quintus, despite him being one the major antagonists on THE CHOSEN.

“I think that one of the things that I relate to Quintus most on – and he’s sort of a hard character to spend a lot of time relating to and maybe if you do relate to him too much, maybe talk to someone. But the thing that I relate to Quintus about is that he can see that he is a part of something he doesn’t understand,” Potter told Movieguide®.

“He can see that there’s something at play here that is much bigger than what he can understand,” the actor continued. “And I definitely feel that way, you know, working on a show like this, with the folks that we’re working with. Like, I don’t fully understand what all’s happening, here but the difference is that I’m happy to be a part of it.”

While Quintus may be a villain, his role in the series is extremely important. He is the first high-ranking Roman to come face-to-face with Jesus, his disciples and the shakeup that comes with their Gospel.

In Season 1, he mocked Jesus and his crew for thinking they could have any impact on Roman-ruled Israel, but by Season 4, he understands that something beyond human possibilities is taking place.

However, as Jesus returns to Jerusalem in Season 5, which will walk through Holy Week, Quintus will likely play a large role in the final days of Jesus’ capture and trial. He will surely be relieved when they nail Jesus to the cross and later lay him in the tomb, not knowing the role that he has just played in redeeming all of creation.

“Working on the show has changed my life,” Potter told The Christian Post.

He said, “sticking with a character for this long has been ‘One of the great joys of my life.’ He enjoys getting to really ‘Go deep. You don’t get the chance to do that very often.’”

Movieguide® previously reported on Potter:

THE CHOSEN actor Brandon Potter is thankful for the way the show approached production in a different way.

“A show this big with this many moving parts can sometimes feel anonymous. You feel like a mercenary, just kind of a gun for hire. You show up and do your job and leave,” Potter told The Christian Post. “And that’s not the way this show is.”

“There’s like a big WhatsApp thread with all the actors and we talk and share news and we follow each other on Instagram – that cast and crew too. Everybody hangs out and knows each other,” he continued.

“Working on this show has changed my life,” he added.

Potter, who plays the Roman guard Qunitus, also revealed that he is excited about the changes that the upcoming season brings to his character.
