How Kirk Cameron Fights for Our Youngest Generation

By Movieguide® Contributor

Kirk Cameron recently spoke about conservative values and Brave Books’ first national “See You at the Library” day.

For “See You at the Library” day, Brave Books asked local hosts to read Cameron’s faith-based story, “As You Grow,” in libraries all across America.

“Cameron…said they have received so much support from numerous organizations, churches, various libraries, boards, politicians, families, state governors, pastors, mayors and more who took it upon themselves to host their own story hours when more well-known names canceled due to protestors,” the Daily Wire reported.

Cameron is passionate about cultivating biblical virtues in America’s youngest generation. The actor believes Brave Books’ story hours allow conservatives to participate in something they believe is making a difference.

“This isn’t Kirk out there doing a story hour at a library, these are American patriots,” Cameron said. “I think this is a real tangible moment for people to see in America and those outside America that are looking at what a mess America is in right now, morally, politically and spiritually.”

He continued, “It’s not just a bunch of talking heads battling about ideas. But parents who are now fully engaged for the hearts and minds of their children, thus the future of our country in the public square contending for the ideas that will produce the results of the future. Conservatives and people of faith want a seat at the table…the Left is going to feel the weight of that.”

Cameron and Brave Books have faced pushback from several organizations and libraries.

The Daily Wire reported that the American Library Association (ALA) made a video “explaining to other libraries how they could ‘block families’ who want to host these story hours, while ‘simultaneously hosting and funding Drag Queen story hours.’”

Cameron retweeted a letter from Barack Obama, which addressed American librarians and condemned them for removing conservative books. Cameron said:

So very grateful that @BarackObama decided to come out swinging in support of my national August 5th “See You At The Library” event! We might not agree on anything, but at least he calls the ALA’s efforts to silence and remove me ‘profoundly misguided.’

Thx for the support, Barack!

The Christian Post reported in March 2023 that Cameron, public speaker Riley Gaines and fellow Brave Books author Missy Robertson had an experience with disruptive staff in a Tennessee library.

Movieguide® reported:

While the local community was thrilled about the event, Robertson shared on the Unashamed podcast how the library staff attempted to disrupt the event before it began.

One staff member ‘started a campaign in the community to shut it down without officially canceling it because then he knew that wouldn’t be good for their library,’ Robertson shared.

As Cameron, Robertson and Gaines tried to film some marketing videos for Brave Books, the staff was ‘hollering and laughing and banging books and [being] really disrupting.’

The county’s library board fired the library director due to the conduct that took place.
