How Loretta Lynn’s Granddaughter Found Freedom from Addiction Through Faith

Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter Tayla Lynn went down a dark road to addiction as a teen.

The country legend’s grandaughter finally turned around when someone led her to Christ.

“Sex, drugs, and rock and roll. I live hard and I lived fast. It all just went together,” she said.

Movieguide® reported:

The granddaughter of famed country singer Loretta Lynn turned to alcohol soon after her parents divorced and her mother married an abusive man. She battled addiction and demons starting when she was a teenager. In an interview with The 700 Club, Lynn shares her journey from addiction to freedom in Christ.

“The alcohol stole my integrity fast. Things that I can’t imagine a 15, 16-year-old girl doing, it just took away whatever felt like was good in me, was tainted.”

Though she grew up surrounded by Christian family members with strong faith, Lynn struggled to break free from the “dark energy that was leading everything [she] was doing.”

Tayla had been in seven rehabs by 2004. It was that year that someone shared Christ with her. They told her, “If you’ll just hit your knees and ask God for help, he will help you.”

She went to a little chapel, fell on her knees and said, “God, I want to be through. I want to be done, God. Please help me.”

And then she was free. She was no longer addicted and gave over the next eight years of her life to Christ.

But then after she had her first child, she got addicted to Vicodin and Adderall. She took the latter medication up to 12 times a day.

“One Adderall led to two, then three, and eventually she found herself buried under the heaviness of addiction. She began to lie, steal, and cheat to get what she wanted as she turned her back on God and even started texting another man,” Crosswalk reported.

In August, Lynn shared a photo on Instagram that said, “Before you judge an addict, put your phone down for 24 hrs. Every time you think about it. That’s what it feels like.”

“I remember thinking, if I don’t talk to God then he can’t see what I’m doing,” she said.

Once her husband found out what she did, she went to rehab again. There, she healed and came back to her walk with God.

“Thankfully, God in his love and mercy redeemed all that Tayla had done. She not only got back on track but she is now helping others stay sober and she’s helping others find their lives in Jesus Christ!” Crosswalk reported.

“You try so hard to figure out what your purpose is. To try to feel like a good person. To feel like a woman of integrity. So that’s how God has changed me,” she said. “My gosh, it doesn’t get any better than that.”

Lynn followed in her grandmother’s footsteps and has released two albums since her last recovery.

She even has a song about overcoming addiction called, “Lord Don’t Give up On Me:”
