How Mark Wahlberg’s Children Changed His Morning Routine

By Movieguide® Contributor

In 2018, Mark Wahlberg went viral for a morning routine that started with a 2:30 a.m. wake-up; five years later, he explains that his routine changed for his high schoolers.

“I’ve been going like, 3:30 wake-up, 4 o’clock in the gym, kind of finish that, get my reading and my prayer time done, and then start the process of waking them up, which usually ends up taking – I’m up and down the stairs at least three times to get the teenagers up, and I get them off to school, and then I usually start the rest of my day,” Wahlberg told Today.com.

While Wahlberg’s oldest, Ella, 20, is in college, he still has a handful at home with three teens: Michael, 17, Brendan, 15, and Grace, 13.

While most of his kids follow a typical teenage schedule, the actor’s youngest, Grace, picked up his early routine, fueled by her passion for equestrian.

“Gracie is already (getting up early). She gets herself up every morning. She gets ready, she’s off to her barn,” Wahlberg said. “She’s doing all the stuff that she needs to do with the horses and training and taking care of the animals. She is me to a T.”

“She does not mess around,” he added. “If you even think about getting her there late or missing something, it’s a big problem.”

Another factor in Wahlberg’s routine change comes from his engagement in a fitness community. While he has worked out alone in the past, recently, he is enjoying group exercise.

“I had spent so many years working out by myself, you know, and it’s what I needed to do, whether I was preparing for a role, or just to kind of feel better and in life,” he explained. “And then, when I found a community where there was a support system, the energy, obviously it’s incredible.”

He previously told Today that while he sometimes takes days off from the gym, he doesn’t “take a day off from getting on my hands and my knees, from reading my prayer book and my daily devotionals,” a practice that gives him “strength and guidance.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Wahlberg:

Actor Mark Wahlberg says a prayer of gratitude every morning because he knows “faith is the most important thing” in life.

“Faith is the most important thing. That’s how I start my day every day,” said the INSTANT FAMILY star in an interview with Caron Butler for Tuff Juice podcast. “By the time I open my eyes, before I turn the light on or do anything, I am kind of saying my prayers. I go in my prayer room and take that 15 or 20 minutes to express how grateful I am,” Wahlberg continued.

Over a year ago, Wahlberg made headlines for his extremely regimented schedule, which showed his commitment to prayer.
