Baseball, media and life could distract Baltimore Orioles infielder Jackson Holliday, but he stays focused on the Lord. So how does the MLB player stay disciplined in his faith?

“Obviously praying every day is probably the closest that you can be to God,” Holliday told Sports Spectrum. “And we have Bible study on like Tuesday nights that we’ve been doing with the PAO community with guys that are, I guess, closer to our circle, as far as, like, gone to Oklahoma State, and guys that I’ve played with, and that’s kind of another area.”

“And then we have Bible studies every Sunday night with the college team at the house,” the infielder added. “And anyone who really wants to come is welcome. And then me and Chloe listen to a lot of music and also watch Ben Stewart on Sunday. So, there’s lots of different things. I know, music is kind of a big one for me. So, we have we have lots of opportunities to continue to learn about our faith.”

The athlete also uses his social media platform to share about his faith.

In one post, Holliday quoted Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

The infielder added, “Grateful for the ups and downs. Excited for next year. Go O’s.”

In another post, Holliday referenced Romans 12:12: “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

He devoted much of the off-season to progressing his game so he could become a regular starter for the Orioles.

“I saw a video from the winter but I was interested to see what it looked like, and for me he did carry over what he was working on at the end of the season last year,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “So we’re looking at that, the quality of at bats, the improvement defensively at second base also. This was his first time ever playing second base last year and doing it at the big league level at 20, it’s not easy to do. So, just adjustments, and you can tell he’s more comfortable now, and he’s not trying to impress as much. He’s going out and playing the game.”
