How Roma Downey Finds Peace in God’s Creations
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actress Roma Downey recently shared how she finds peace when she visits the ocean, explaining how she relates to THE SOUND OF MUSIC’s Maria.
The TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL actress posted on Instagram, “In the movie THE SOUND OF MUSIC Maria sings that she goes to the hills when her heart is lonely and I understand that feeling, that longing.”
“I go to the ocean, to be by the sea, to feel the wind in my hair, to breathe fresh air, to hear the silence with only the waves lapping on the shore, this is so healing and centering and calming and restorative to me,” Downey continued.
“My heart will be blessed by the sound of music (the waves lapping) and I’ll sing once more…‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.’ Matthew 11:28,” the actress wrote.
Downey’s amazement with God’s creations doesn’t end there. She frequently posts about her admiration for God’s wonders.
In a video of a whale coming close to a diver, she wrote, “This is the most moving video I have seen in ages. Wow!!!”
In several other posts about her recent visit to Ireland, Downey writes about her gratitude to be in a peaceful environment. Whether she watches the sunset, takes a walk or smells the salty sea, she appreciates the rest it gives her.
Movieguide® previously reported about Downey’s mission to be a light in Hollywood:
‘There is a saying that ‘it’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness,’’ Downey told Jesus Calling. ‘And we really believe that at Lightworkers (Downey’s production company). You know, there are a lot of bad things happening in the world. Of course, there are.’
‘There is a lot of fear and anxiety…around climate change, around rising crime, world hunger. I mean, it goes on and on. There’s so much hurt and pain in our world. But there is also so much goodness in our world, and there are good people everywhere doing good things all day,’ she continued.
‘We’re committed to reminding people that there is goodness in the world, that there are good people, and that there is light. That is the light. And that, of course, God is the light. We’re just the workers,’ she added.
