How This Olympian and Her Husband Impact Thousands of Marriages

Olympian Shawn Johnson and her husband Andrew East want to help other marriages succeed through the content they create, and they seem to be doing just that.
In a recent episode of their podcast, the couple read an encouraging comment.
“Your content has motivated us to focus on what’s most important: God marriage and family. Bless you, and I hope you continue to do this type of work for a long time. You’re changing one family at a time,” the fan wrote to the couple.
“I did have a pastor this morning who was on Tim Keller’s staff say that we’re in a really unique position to use this podcast and all of our wild videos we post online to save hundreds of thousands of marriages,” Andrew said after reading the comment. “He said and he said we’re doing a good job. So, it’s kind of a responsibility.”
Johnson noted what a heavy responsibility that is: “That makes me feel kind of sick to my stomach in the sense of like pressure to be good. Does that make sense? Us…to not say anything wrong.”
She continued, “I feel like the world tries to paint a picture of marriage as if it’s not perfect, it’s not right, and you shouldn’t stay. I have found in our marriage, that the most fruitful parts of our life and of our relationship have come from really, really hard things that are not by any means perfect. And the more you kind of fight through that kind of stuff, the deeper and more fruitful your marriage is, and I think we just want to showcase that.”
Andrew chimed in about their role as podcasters. “Let’s at least continue to be aware and intentional and reflect on it.”
The couple previously reflected on the changes that come in marriage.
“Yes, your spouse will change,” Shawn shared. “They will go through phases of life where they are completely different than the person you married, but that’s also part of the adventure of life is going through these ups and downs and falling back in love with each one of those people.”

The couple’s Instagram content also showcases a positive example of marriage as Shawn and Andrew try different challenges, highlight their growing kids and share hilariously relatable moments.
