How Steve Harvey Leaves His ‘Own Little Stamp’ on FAMILY FEUD
By Movieguide® Contributor
In a recent interview with TODAY, comedian and game show host Steve Harvey discussed his experience hosting FAMILY FEUD for its past 15 seasons.
“They allow me to put my own little stamp on the show,” Harvey shared with TODAY. “I think that’s the magic to this, the interaction with the contestants. I form the relationships with them…storylines.”
He explained that he has no prior information before a show and does not know any questions beforehand.
TODAY host Donna Farizan commented, “You have these ‘looks’ that just totally transform a moment.”
Harvey revealed that those iconic “looks” have been a lifetime in the making.
“When I was a little boy, when all I dreamed about was being on TV, I was practicing my TV show in the mirror,” he said. “And all I would do in that mirror was make faces.”
Harvey then explained how he was in a really dark place before becoming famous and gives all credit to God for bringing him out.
“I was homeless living in my car. I told God, ‘If you let me make it, when I get there, I’ll tell the world about you.’ That’s a promise I made. I get it. He knew when he got me to where I was going to be, I would have a story to tell,” he said.
Harvey held true to his promise and shares his faith with others today.
“Faith doesn’t make it easy, faith makes it possible! Your success is tied to your relationship with God. YOU HAVE TO TALK TO GOD OFTEN! Talk to God every day, even if you think you aren’t perfect,” he shares on his website. “You don’t have to be in the same faith that I believe in, you don’t have to call God what I call God…but listen to me, you do have to call him. This is your key, quit tripping yourself out, don’t forget to pray!”

FAMILY FEUD star Steve Harvey says his secret to success is to access your God-given gifts.
“The key is to locate your gift,” Harvey told the game show audience between takes. “It’s not your talent. Your talent has nothing to do with it. Be very careful with what you’re talented in and passionate about. They sound like the same thing. What you are gifted at is your quest…”
“Every living soul God created — at birth, He gave all of you a gift — all of you in this room are gifted,” Harvey explained. “All of you are gifted. Listen to me. All of you are gifted individuals…
“Go do that. Do your gift. Don’t worry about which one of them [are] talents,” he concluded. “The reason you’re struggling with that talent is because that ain’t what you was built to do. You were built to do your gift. Discover your gift, change your life. That’s the secret.”
