How THE CHOSEN Will Tackle The ‘Most Famous Moments in All of Scripture’

THE CHOSEN creator Dallas Jenkins is sharing some behind-the-scenes secrets ahead of the show’s Season 5 premiere.

“In Season 5…one of the most famous moments in all of scripture is when Jesus turns over the tables in the temple, and this is significant because it’s Jesus really upending…what had become a tradition for many years,” Jenkins told Movieguide® when asked if the research he puts into the show has changed his understanding of the Bible.

He continued, “We really wanted to make sure — ‘Look, there’s a difference between what this group of people were doing and what the other groups of people were doing’ — and so I think that’s something that THE CHOSEN has managed to do fairly well for these first five seasons.”

“It’s not all or nothing. It’s not bad guys [and] good guys,” Jenkins said. “[We’re] just making sure that we give nuance to each of the groups of people in the story.”

Jenkins was also asked if there are any characters viewers will get to know better in Season 5.

“Obviously, Judas is a big one this season,” he responded. “You know, he officially breaks bad — that’s not a big spoiler — and so we want to focus on, what are some of the circumstances that would cause that?”

Jenkins added, “Another one is Pilate. You know, we’ve always tried to give space and time to the people who are opposing Jesus, and Pilate…is responsible for the biggest indecision in the world, and so we want to show you why he would be undecided, and so we spend some time in Pilate’s chambers and with his wife. Those are two characters you don’t normally see get much backstory in this, so I think we’ll enjoy that.”

Season 5 of THE CHOSEN premieres Friday, March 28, 2025 in theaters and experts are already forecasting massive ticket sales for Fathom Events.

“We came to the conclusion that doing something on a festival style was the way to go,” Fathom Entertainment CEO Ray Nutt told Variety.

He continued, “It’s just amazing to me that people will pay for a movie ticket to go see it. It’s a tribute to the quality of the content. The production value is huge. The storytelling is beyond belief. And there’s people from all religions and sectors that come to see this — it’s not just Christians.”

This season will be the last time THE CHOSEN partners with Fathom, as Jenkins’ 5&2 Studios just signed a deal with Amazon MGM that gives the company exclusive streaming rights to the show. The deal also gives Amazon first-look rights for any of 5&2’s future projects.

“For several years, the team at Amazon MGM Studios has proved over and over they’re passionate about this show and our fans,” Jenkins said in a statement about the deal. “They’re going to make us better and get the show to more people, and I can’t wait to build this relationship.”
