How THE CHOSEN’s Nick Shakoor Encountered God
By Movieguide® Contributor
Actor Nick Shakoor, who plays the character Zebedee on THE CHOSEN, shares his experience with his performance and how his relationship with God has changed drastically.
In an interview on THE 700 CLUB, Shakoor spoke about how he grew up Greek Orthodox, but life slowly hardened his heart toward God. “When I first signed up to do THE CHOSEN, I had a conversation with God and told him ‘You probably don’t even exist’… and I heard my heart call out and say ‘if you don’t call out to God right now this is about to get really bad.’” Shortly after, Shakoor was invited to a conference and felt in his heart like he was supposed to go.
“I started in my heart asking God to remove this burden that was I feel transferred to me from my family because the war-torn country we are from in Lebanon, so I said ‘Lord whatever this is I’m carrying I want it off of me.’ [My buddy’s] son comes over from behind me… taps me on the shoulder and says, ‘I want you to know I was praying for you from back there and God told me to tell you that… by showing up tonight you broke your family’s generational curse.’”
“For the first time in my life, I genuinely gave them [my idols] to God… so I gave him everything,” he shared through tears. This encounter changed Shakoor’s life, and God continues to speak to him throughout the conference.
In an interview with Movieguide®, Shakoor also explained how the Holy Spirit works through him now as he acts on THE CHOSEN.
“I feel him all around 24 hours a day and it’s I’ve really understanding now what it means to have a relationship with Him, compared to just breaking off into the ether distance without really feeling him around. It’s it’s so easy now. It’s so easy.
“I’m not acting the scene, [it’s] like He’s acting [through] me. And it’s those moments in between action that actually wait for because I get to share with people that this miraculous thing that I never thought would happen in a million years to me, actually happened,” Shakoor told Movieguide®. “Right before booking THE CHOSEN, I had a conversation with God. And I told Him, ‘You probably don’t even exist because of all the things that we all go through in life. And we assume that if You’re here, You wouldn’t let this happen to me.’ So [this experience has] been miraculous.”
THE CHOSEN has won multiple Movieguide® Awards for its storytelling on the life of Christ and His disciples. Most recently, it received the Epiphany Prize® for Most Inspiring Movie.
