How the Kendrick Brothers Honor the Heart of God With New DVD Release

By Movieguide® Staff

After a successful run in the box office as a Fathom event, the Kendrick Brothers announced that the faith-filled, true story, LIFEMARK, will be available to buy on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital download release on Dec. 13.

LIFEMARK tells a true story about the beauty of life and adoption, subject matter that became especially relevant after the overturning of Roe v. Wade just weeks before the release.

“It is so important that we as believers communicate a clear and compassionate message to state legislators and to business leaders and pastors that we need to be lining up with Scripture and showing compassion to those in unwanted pregnancies, yes, but also for the unborn, for people who would like to adopt and even people who’ve had abortions in the past,” Stephen Kendrick told Movieguide® in a recent interview. “A large percentage of them would call themselves believers in God. There’s a lot of people who sit in churches on Sundays and they have an abortion in their past and they’ve never told anybody and we want to show compassion and help bring healing to them. We think LIFEMARK and this new, home video release with all the special features has a message for everyone involved in this discussion.”

Alex added that he hopes LIFEMARK would encourage the church to focus on God as the creator of life rather than our rights.

“God says he loves us, that we are made in his image. He tells us to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Who does God say to minister to? The fatherless and the widow and to love one another. We see people waking up to the fact that this issue is not just about rights,” Alex said. “Rights are important in our culture, but honoring the one who made us and the one we’re ultimately accountable to is more important.”

“We are grateful for the rights that were allowed in our nation and in our culture, but more than that, we want to honor the Lord and we want to turn people’s hearts and minds to that greater priority,” he continued, “to the God who made us and so we’re grateful for LIFEMARK and we can’t wait for more people see it.”

The FIREPROOF and COURAGEOUS creators said that LIFEMARK is not just a movie for Christians.

“This is not a political film, it’s a true story that communicates a biblical message of love and redemption, and we’re hoping it will impact everybody, regardless of any kind of affiliation or denomination or background,” Stephen said. “All of us need to be hearing God’s truth in our context.

“Jesus said, loving God and loving others is the greatest thing we can do,” he added. “The greatest command is not to defend your rights, it’s actually to die to ourselves and lay down our lives for other people. When love is your motivation, it adds clarity, it adds compassion, it adds courage to the decisions that you make and love chooses life.

“Jesus, representing the Father’s love, came to offer us eternal life. He said, ‘I’ve come to give you life and life more abundantly.’ And I think that with the enemy wanting to steal, kill, destroy, it is so important that Christians are ambassadors of life, in every context that we are defending the unborn.”

Alex added that at the heart of the debate should be compassion that reflects Christ and the gospel.

“Believers ought to be lifting up people who are made in the image of God with compassion,” Alex said. “Jesus viewed the masses, not as customers for a product, not as irritations to his agenda, but he viewed them as sheep without a shepherd and it says he was moved with compassion for them, and that he then reaches out.”

“If love becomes our motivation for what we do, whether you’re a filmmaker or you’re delivering pizzas, you can represent God’s love to the people that you’re interacting with,” he added. “LIFEMARK… we don’t want to just reach the head, we want to reach the heart.”

A portion of Movieguide®’s review of LIFEMARK reads:

LIFEMARK is a well-made, heartwarming, inspiring movie produced by the Kendrick Brothers and Kirk Cameron, who also stars. The movie is solid throughout, with a positive Christian worldview. The movie promotes relying on God, believing God’s plan, forgiveness, and loving others. There’s also a beautiful pro-life message about adoption, giving life and the value of life. Don’t let the PG-13 rating stop you from seeing this movie. The movie’s themes about abortion and pro-life issues are the reason the Hollywood elites are giving LIFEMARK such a tough rating.
