‘I Feel The Lord’: Wynonna Judd Relies On Faith As She Mourns Her Mother

Wynonna Judd is leaning on her faith and her love of music as she heads out on tour — her first since the death of her mother, Naomi Judd.

Country music legend Naomi Judd died this weekend at the age of 76, just one day before her induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
Her daughters, Wynonna and Ashley, appeared at the ceremony to accept their mother’s posthumous award and share their final moments with their mother.
Wynonna said that Naomi died early in the morning, just after reciting Psalm 23 together
Wynonna and Naomi had planned a tour for next year, but now Wynonna is heading out on her own. The singer revealed that she will be working through her grief while on tour.
“I am walking a paradox,” she said of her feelings in the aftermath of her mother’s death. “I feel joy, I feel pain, I feel light, I feel dark.”
Wynonna also shared that there are moments of normalcy that get interrupted by her sorrow — one minute, she’s planning dinner with her husband, the next, she’s in tears.
“I’m crying a lot and that’s okay,” she stated.
The singer also revealed what’s been getting her through this time: her faith.
“It’s the Holy Spirit thing for me,” Wynonna said. “I feel the Lord, and I feel joy and I feel sorrow all at the same time.”
While this tour will be hard for Wynonna, the singer is bringing along plenty of friends to support her. Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Brandi Carlile, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde, and Trisha Yearwood are all slated to perform on various tour dates.
Wynonna said this tour will not only be a time of healing for herself, but for her mother’s fans.
“I want people to know that they’re loved,” she shared. “I want people to know that there is hope.”
