YouTuber and social media star Logan Paul invited father-son pastor team Cliffe and Stuart Knechtle to discuss faith, the Gospel and heaven.

At the start of the episode, Paul revealed that he grew up Christian, but as he got older, he grew out of the faith as he “became a little bit more curious about the world.” His current non-Christian worldview was apparent through the questions that he asked and his opinions about large cultural issues.

One of the questions on the podcast was about the nature of salvation and whether believers could “lose” their salvation once they had committed their lives to Jesus.

“Jesus’ value system is on the line,” Cliffe explained, referencing the story of the thief on the cross to illustrate the nature of salvation. “[Jesus] could’ve looked the guy in the face and said, ‘Get down off of here to say 12 Hail Marys, work in a soup kitchen, and if you do a good enough job, maybe you’ll make it.”

“He didn’t say that,” Cliffe continued. “Instead, He said, ‘I tell you the truth. Today you’ll be with me in paradise.’ And that’s grace. That’s amazing grace, God’s undeserved offer of forgiveness, His generosity. Jesus points out that I’m not going to heaven because I live a good life. I’m going to heaven because of His grace, His offer of forgiveness. But if my faith in Him is genuine, it will be shown in the way I love Him, honor Him and obey Him.”

In the same vein, Paul explored the idea of the afterlife and how we are eternally split between heaven and hell after we die.

“If I choose to reject Christ and live my life separate from Him, I’m choosing to live my life separate from God. Based on my decision [I] will spend eternity separate from Him,” Cliffe explained.

Paul continued to share his struggle with the faith, explaining how he found it difficult that our eternity depends on decisions we make during our lives — particularly when the “proof” for Christianity can never be 100%.

“Three days after [Jesus] dies, He physically, bodily rises from the dead, and over a period of 40 days, He appears to over 500 people who see him different times, different places, risen from the dead,” Cliffe said.

The pastor also explained how doubt is a natural part of the Christian walk and is addressed throughout the Bible. The entire story of Job, for example, deals with doubt, and the doubt of the disciple Thomas about the resurrection of Jesus is recorded in the Gospel of John.

While Paul didn’t seem more interested in the faith at the end of the podcast, he did share his appreciation for the Knechtles’ ability to share complex ideas at an understandable level. It is also impossible to know what is going on in a person’s heart and how God uses their past experiences to pull them closer to Him.

Please keep Paul in your prayers that this conversation may be part of a story that one day leads him to Christ and that the millions of people touched by this podcast will also have had their faith strengthened.
