Olympic champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won’t be able to attend the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, due to a minor knee injury.
Movieguide® recently covered her record-breaking run that qualified her for the world championships:
Double Olympic Champion Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ran a personal best in the 400 meter with a time of 48.74. Her time became the fastest of 2023 so far.
McLaughlin-Levrone shared a photo on her Instagram and wrote, “God’s grace is sufficient for each and everyday. The peace He brings surpasses that of any outcome, and the joy of running for Him, makes these moments that much sweeter. ???”
“Excited for all that is to come. Looking forward to representing team USA ?? in Budapest! To God be the glory,” she added.
However, McLaughlin-Levrone recently shared, “I am sad to share that I must withdraw from this year’s world championships meet in Budapest. After consulting with my doctors and coaches, I need to take care of a minor knee issue so that I can be fully healthy for next year’s Paris Olympics. I look forward to seeing everyone back on the track soon.”
“We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on the track soon,” USA Track and Field stated.
McLaughlin-Levrone had decided to “concentrate on her newest event, the 400, rather than compete in both. She has the top 400 time in the world this season at 48.74 seconds and would have been a heavy favorite in Budapest,” the Associated Press reported.
AP continued, “The loss of McLaughlin-Levrone is a blow to an American team coming off a 33-medal performance — 13 gold — last summer at worlds in Eugene, Oregon. She was a big part of the success, breaking her own world record in the 400 hurdles on her way to winning gold. She also ran the anchor leg when the U.S. won the 4×400 relay.”
McLaughlin-Levrone recently posted about her birthday on Instagram. The athlete wrote, “Jesus has been so gracious, so kind, so loving, so merciful. All these years of being alive, but only now am I living. Every day is an opportunity to grow deeper in knowledge of His Majesty. I will cherish every moment of it, this life is such a gift.”
Lynna Irby-Jackson will replace McLaughlin-Levrone at the World Championships.
Movieguide® previously reported on McLaughlin-Levrone:
Olympic Champion and now World Athlete of the Year, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, discussed what it took to break records and become a champion.
“It means absolutely everything,” McLaughlin-Levrone stated after she received the award. “I’m so grateful for the opportunity. It has been an unreal season and I’m really grateful that it has culminated in this to cap it all off.”
However, the highlight of her year was winning the world title in world record time all while in the US.
“It meant so much, especially after Tokyo and not being able to have family and friends there,” she stated. “Being able to have that moment on home soil and have all of them there – that was the icing on the cake for me. That was the most special part of the moment for sure.”
