Recently, Jack Black met Tanner from LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM while on THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW, a moment that was special for so many reasons.
Black got to know and love Tanner by watching the reality dating show as a way to spend time with his sons.
“This all started years ago because my sons loved LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM, and I was like ‘Oh, good. This is our show,’ because I’m always looking for ways to connect with my boys,” the actor revealed on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast, mentioning how, now that they’re older, they don’t want to hang out with their parents anymore.
Black explained, “I was like ‘I want to watch it with you guys.’ And we watched it, and we loved that show and loved Tanner.”
The A MINECRAFT MOVIE star shares two sons, Sammy, 18, and Tommy, 16 with his wife Tanya.
But he was surprised to learn that just as he and his sons grew to love Tanner, Tanner had grown to love him.
“I got a call from Lewis, our publicist, who was like ‘Hey, Kelly Clarkson is asking if you’ll do a video for Tanner from LOVE ON THE SPECTRUM who loves you,’” Black recalled. “I was like ‘What! He loves me? Yes, I want to do a video.'”
It was then that Black made a special video for Tanner, which he saw while on Clarkson’s show the first time.
“I love his philosophy of life,” Black gushed. “His mission is to bring smiles and joy around the world, like we need more Tanners. And I sent that over, and they showed it, and he saw it on THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW.”
Then, this spring, he got another call.
“We just had that one connection through Kelly Clarkson, then I got the call, ‘Hey, he’s gonna be here the same time you’re here promoting Minecraft, will you do a surprise run out to him?’”

Black agreed without hesitation.
Speaking of Tanner’s reaction to meeting him, Black teared up.
“I wasn’t prepared for how emotional it was. It was really emotional, and I almost started crying. We were hugging. There was so much love,” the actor revealed.
Last year, Black opened up to PEOPLE about how much his children mean to him. “What’s my favorite part of being a dad? I just love it when we have walks and talks,” he said. “And talk about life. Whenever they ask me a question or advice, something like that…”
Most of all, Black says his family “Gives life meaning.”
“Whenever we’re able to share the things that are important in life, about friends and relationships, and it really kind of gives life meaning.”
