James Van Der Beek Shares Details About His Family’s ‘Centering’ New Life In Texas

James Van Der Beek says that his family’s new life in Austin, Texas is “grounding” for his children.
“I know for me, it’s been really centering and I feel like for the kids, it’s been grounding, and a different kind of education that we never could have offered them in a classroom,” the actor shared.
He and his wife Kimberly, who have been married since 2010, moved their family from Los Angeles to Austin in 2020. The couple share six children.
“We love it. We have a lot more space,” Van Der Beek said of their new life in Texas. “We all need a more immediate connection to nature. It’s been a really, really great move and the kids are really happy.”
He continued, “The parks have been amazing. We’ve been going to state parks and the national parks. It’s just one of the benefits of getting out of the big city was getting to a place where we could just have more space right outside our door. It’s a very, it’s a very different life.”

Mark Wahlberg is one of the many celebrities choosing to leave Hollywood and raise their families outside of the entertainment capital.
The action star recently revealed that he was selling his Los Angeles home and moving his family to Nevada in pursuit of a “better life.”
“I want to be able to work from home,” Wahlberg shared. “I moved to California many years ago to pursue acting, and I’ve only made a couple of movies in the entire time that I was there.
“So, to be able to give my kids a better life and follow and pursue their dreams whether it be my daughter as an equestrian, my son as a basketball player, my younger son as a golfer, this made a lot more sense for us,” the actor continued.
Wahlberg and his wife Rhea have four children: Ella, 18, Michael, 16, Brendan, 13, and Grace, 12.
“We came [to Nevada] to just kind of give ourselves a new look, a fresh start for the kids, and there’s a lot of opportunity here,” Wahlberg said. “I’m really excited about the future.”
