Jamie Foxx Makes First Return to Stage After Medical Scare
By Movieguide® Contributor
Jamie Foxx just made his first return to the stage for a Netflix standup special after his health emergency last year.
“Join us for an unforgettable one-man show as Jamie Foxx takes the stage to share his journey through a serious health scare, filled with humor, heart, and inspiration!” he posted of the event on Instagram.
A video after the event shows Foxx celebrating with friends and those who helped put the show on.
“You landed on the moon, man. Be so proud,” Foxx said.
Per Variety, “Foxx shared, for the first time in depth, the story of the mysterious ailment that left him hospitalized in April 2023. But the circumstances around the show, titled ‘What Had Happened Was,’ were also unusual because he didn’t workshop the material in the typical way.”
“It was excruciating because — the worry is what gets you. Yeah, we’ve got a great show in the room, but we don’t know what they may laugh or what they may not laugh at,” Foxx explained of the show. “Usually, when you do a stand-up special, you go out for a year and work every nook and cranny, then you tape it. You don’t just show up in Atlanta and turn the camera on.”
Moveiguide® previously reported on Foxx’s health scare:
Last April, Jamie Foxx spent over two weeks in the hospital and has remained secretive about what occurred; however, he has recently started to share more details about his health scare.
“April 11 last year, [I had] a bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil,” Foxx told fans in a clip shared across social media. “I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”
“So they told me — I’m in Atlanta — they told me, my sister and my daughter, they took me to the first doctor. He said nah, give me a cortisone shot. The next doctor said, ‘Something’s going on up there.’ I won’t say it on camera,” Foxx continued.
The comedian had the entire crowd “laughing and crying at the same time.”
“Only you could’ve done that,” CBS host Gayle King told Foxx.
“It’s a personal journey, and I hope I never have to…I am never going to go through this again. My next jokes will start out, ‘Knock, knock!’” Foxx said in return as the people in the room laughed. “I’ll do an hour and a half of ‘Knock, knock’ jokes.”
“Let’s sit back, watch it, and build toward a newer, brighter and healthier future,” Foxx concluded as he and his team raised a toast together.
