Jamie Foxx is thanking fans for their prayers after a serious health scare earlier this year.

“This birthday is a special one,” the actor wrote in an Instagram post. “I wanna start by saying thank you to everyone that prayed for me when I was in a bad way…here lately I’ve been able to thank some of you personally but I want to say to all of you. I NEEDED EVERY PRAYER…you lifted me through…I was able to make it to today because of your prayers…I consider all of you my family.”

Foxx added, “Thank you to my immediate family, and everybody who chipped in to make sure that I could celebrate on this day… I’m sending our complete joy to everybody.”

Foxx suffered a “medical complication” earlier this year.

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery,” his daughter Corinne wrote at the time. “We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.”

Fox made his first public appearance since his hospitalization at this year’s Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema & Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements, where he accepted the Vanguard Award.

“I’ve been through some things,” the actor said during his acceptance speech. “It’s crazy; I couldn’t do that six months ago. I couldn’t actually walk.”

“It’s different…I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy,” he admitted. “‘Cause it’s tough…when it’s almost over,” he added. “I saw the tunnel. I didn’t see the light.”

Foxx continued, “It feels good to be here. I cherish every single minute now.”

Jamie Foxx recently made his first public appearance since a medical complication caused him to be hospitalized earlier this year.

“You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that six months ago — I couldn’t actually walk,” Foxx said after walking across the stage to accept the Critics Choice Association Vanguard Award.

The actor continued, “I cherish every single minute now — it’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over. When you see the tunnel, I saw the tunnel — I didn’t see the light.”

“I have a new respect for life,” Foxx concluded. “I have a new respect for my art. I watched so many movies and listened to so many songs trying to have the time go by. Don’t give up on your art, man, don’t give up.”
