Jamie Foxx Reveals What God Told Him After His Health Scare

Jamie Foxx recently revealed a strangely coincidental conversation he had shortly before his 2023 near-death experience.

“You know what’s crazy? Before it happened, I was talking to my people that handle my stuff [and they asked], ‘Jamie, wanna go over some papers just in case something happens?’” the actor told PEOPLE.

He asked, “What’s gonna happen to me?” Soon after, he suffered a brain bleed that led to his lengthy hospitalization.

“When it happened, the amount of love that was poured, the amount of people that reached out, really meant something,” Foxx said of the public reaction to his health scare.

He added, “When I was talking to [God], he said, ‘Hey man, I’m gonna give you the second chance — what you gonna do with it?’ I said, ‘I’m gonna put more smiles on people’s faces and I’m gonna do everything I can to.’”

Foxx spoke to Variety about the experience, praising his daughters, Anelise and Corinne Marie Foxx, for their care during that time.

“I say this all the time, when you dream about what you want to be, you don’t dream about tragedy,” he explained. “You dream the good things, you dream the greatest life in the world. But when tragedy happens, you need somebody there that really loves you.”

Speaking to Us Weekly, Foxx praised his daughters again, saying, “Shout-out to my daughter Corinne Marie Foxx, who took care of me and made sure I was protected. She wouldn’t let anybody see me.”

“And then shout-out to my youngest daughter who was courageous in front of that crowd,” he added, referring to Anelise’s musical performance in his recent stand-up special, JAMIE FOXX: WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS.

Foxx is throwing himself into his work these days. In addition to his special and his Netflix movie BACK IN ACTION, the actor just signed a multi-year deal with Fox Entertainment Studios.

The deal gives the studio first-look rights to scripted TV material from Foxx’s production banner, Foxxhole Productions, as well as exclusive rights to his projects and producing services in the unscripted space.

“We are ready and excited to kick-start this very promising new creative partnership with Jamie as we build on Fox’s longtime association with him — initiated by our CEO Rob Wade and network president Michael Thorn,” Fernando Szew, president of Fox Entertainment Studios, said of the deal. “Jamie is a renowned multifaceted talent, so as a studio, we want to support his tremendous creativity with access to the full scope of our genres, formats and brands. Together we will deliver unexpected, unforgettable content to audiences everywhere. At Fox Entertainment Studios we are expanding our reach and portfolio, and this is a keystone creative partnership as we build.”
