Jenny Marrs Looking Forward to Making Summer Memories With Her Kids
By Movieguide® Contributor
FIXER TO FABULOUS star Jenny Marrs recently shared an excerpt from her book, reminding fans of the importance of making unplanned memories with their children.
“In honor of the last few weeks of school + today’s Mother’s Day book giveaway (see yesterday’s post!), I thought of share an excerpt from my new book, House + Love = Home. Mommas, may we approach this crazy busy month with intention knowing summer break is just around the bend,” Marrs wrote on Instagram.
The excerpt reads:
“Summer is for unplanned, unhurried, unscheduled hours set aside simply to linger. To stoop down and scoop up a handful of wildflowers. To roam freely outdoors awakening imaginations and senses gone dormant under academic and time pressure. To savor a new book from the library, saying yes to the enthusiastic request for one more chapter. To amble on a long walk down our quiet dirt road at dusk without the incessant pull to rush back home and complete the bedtime routine in preparation for another carline morning.
Most important, this annual season of rest allows me to step back and evaluate what matters most to me as a mother. I ask myself: If I imagine my grown children in twenty years, sitting around a table with their friends, how do I want them to describe their childhood?
I know I want them to have fond memories of long days outside. I want them to remember dirt under their fingernails and laughter on their lips. I want them to remember the sensation of sunshine on their faces. I want them to remember the affection and responsibility they gleaned from caring for animals. I want them to remember a home with vases full of handpicked wildflowers on every surface and gallery walls covered in homemade Picassos. I want them to remember a childhood framed with sweet, content moments of lingering. I want them to have a solid foundation of tangible acts of love and a reservoir of joy to carry them throughout their lives.”
Marrs and her husband Dave recently celebrated the eighth anniversary of FIXER TO FABULOUS.
“I remember watching the three-minute edited down ‘sizzle reel’ that our production company, RIVR media, would send to HGTV and thinking, ‘this is absolutely crazy. Why would anyone want to watch a television show about our life?’” Marrs wrote. “I also remember being nervous that someone would want to watch a television show about our life.”
She continued, “I prayed simply, ‘Lord, if this is what you want for us to do, if this will bring you glory, if we can use this opportunity to shine a light into this dark world, then let it happen. If this isn’t in your plans for us, if this is against your will, then slam the door shut.’ Thankfully, when the door stayed open, He brought us the best team of people to work alongside of every day. This team is truly like family and are some of the hardest working, biggest hearted, most caring people I’ve ever known.”
The Marrses also recently debuted FIXER TO FABULOUS: ITALIANO, a spin-off series that sees the couple renovating an Italian villa.
“Not a lot of people can say, ‘I’ve taken a centuries-old villa in Italy and helped to restore it,’” Dave told House Beautiful. “There were so many days where we were just exhausted, but it was a really amazing experience.”
Movieguide® previously reported on FIXER TO FABULOUS: ITALIANO:
Dave and Jenny Marrs are taking their home renovation skills across the world for their new show FIXER TO FABULOUS: ITALIANO.
“Dave and Jenny journey to Italy’s Tuscan countryside from their hometown of Bentonville, Arkansas, to revitalize a grand villa for longtime friends,” a synopsis from HGTV reads. “The six-episode season documents the Marrs, who first visited Italy as newlyweds, as they execute a monumental restoration of the centuries-old property.”
Jenny also posted some thoughts about the project on Instagram, writing, “At the very beginning of this renovation, I prayed a simple prayer: ‘Lord, let this be a blessing and not a burden.’”
“And, now that we are crossing the finish line. I can look back and see how every single step has been covered in blessing upon blessing,” she continued. “Unbelievable memories were made, bucket list items were checked off and our family will forever look back on this season of life and know that we worked hard and sacrificed time and convenience but we gained experiences and lessons that will forever be etched into the fabric of who we are. And, I know this home will now serve as a blessing for all of the guests who enter in the coming years.”
