Two Friends Realized ‘Our Generation Needs Hope,’ So They Did This…
By Movieguide® Contributor
JESUS FREAKS TV creators Ally Yost and Ashley Hetherington want to share “the love of Jesus” with their viewers.
“I think that once you encounter a love like Jesus, you can’t help but tell everyone about it,” Yost said during an episode of THE 700 CLUB. “I think our generation really just needs that hope, and I think we’re searching for it.”
She added, “I just want everyone to know the love of Jesus and how good He is.”
Yost and Hetherington first met online and quickly became real-life pals.
“We loved what we were doing because we both loved Jesus and had our online ministries, so we kind of supported each other through that,” Yost explained.
Hetherington added, “It was just God…if God has a divine relationship for you, it will just happen so suddenly and so effortlessly.”
The pair ended up living together in Nashville and have now made the move to LA as they continue work on JESUS FREAKS.
Speaking about the inspiration for the show’s name, Hetherington shared, “We were praying about it…I felt the Lord put JESUS FREAKS in my head, and I just said it out loud and I was like, ‘That has a nice ring to it.’”

Hetherington and Yost have big dreams for JESUS FREAKS and are currently working on Season 2.
“We’re kind of in the beginning stages of finding a production house,” Yost shared, joking, “It’s a lot of work for just the two of us, so we would love to find a team.”
Hetherington said, “Our dream is to have it available on a streaming platform where unbelievers have access to it, because we want it to be something where unbelievers can go, ‘Oh, I’m bored, I have nothing to watch. I could watch these JESUS FREAKS.’ And then they end up finding joy and positivity from it.”
In an interview with CBN, Hetherington said, “We’d like to see many more ‘Jesus Freaks’ living everyday life to please the Lord.”
The pair are already making a major real-life impact. Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards’ daughter Lola recently came to Christ after seeing one of Yost’s social media posts, where the faith-based influencer was “talking about Jesus when I was in a hard time.” She was baptized earlier this year.
“When I was in my deepest depression, there was a moment where I realized I hit rock bottom. I felt so lost and hopeless, and was just doing my best to make it to the next day,” she posted on Instagram. “I just accepted my life was going to be like that forever, and thought I would never genuinely laugh again. Until, I met not only my Savior but my best friend, Jesus.”
“I am so happy to go into this next year, after publicly declaring Jesus as my Savior. I am forever saved by His Grace, through faith,” she continued. “I thank You Jesus for everything, I love You, and I hope You are proud of me.”
