How JESUS REVOLUTION Producer Went from Ministry to Filmmaking
By Movieguide® Contributor
JESUS REVOLUTION producer Jerilyn Esquibel shared her journey from working in ministry to becoming a producer on several big-name faith-based movies.
“So, my journey is a little bit different. I was working in full-time ministry…I was working four different jobs, well three different jobs to help support my love for ministry,” Esquibel told Shari Rigby on “The Women In My World” podcast. “And working full-time, you don’t really make a lot of money when you’re working in ministry, so I was doing multiple things. I was working at a veterans care funeral home, I was working at a granite shop, I was literally working anywhere that I could kind of do on the weekends to keep up with the ministry side.”
A friend suggested she take a job at the Home Shopping Network, and while she wasn’t initially interested, she snagged the position after realizing how much money she’d make. She continued there for several years until landing a job with the Erwin brothers. She worked with them for 14 years.
“That’s where I got started and kind of how it happened,” Esquibel said. “I didn’t go to school for this. I didn’t feel like God was like one day, you’re going to do this. It just kind of happened. I actually thought that I was going to be a pastor. I actually went to school for that. That’s just not where the journey led me.”
“I was blessed enough just to kind of fall into it and just saying, ‘Yes, sure, I can do that,’ even though I have no idea. And it got me to where I am today,” she added.
Throughout her career, Esquibel has worked on projects including DIVINE INFLUENCER, WOODLAWN and I STILL BELIEVE.
Her next movie, THE UNBREAKABLE BOY, will open on Feb. 21. 2025.
“Directed and written by Jon Gunn, the pic follows 12-year-old Austin (Jacob Laval), who is the ultimate ’90s kid — funny, loves life, loves pancakes and instantly makes friends with everyone he meets. When his father, Scott (Zachary Levi), learns Austin has autism and osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease), at first he only can see his son through society’s misconceptions about his disabilities. But with Scott’s growing faith and Austin’s incredible spirit, Scott discovers the excitement for life that comes so naturally to his son. And he learns that being ‘unbreakable’ is about finding joy and gratitude even in the most trying times,” Deadline reported.
