Jim Caviezel Says Hollywood May Forget Him, But Heaven Won’t

By Movieguide® Contributor

Jim Caviezel knows that worldly accolades hold little value compared to Heaven’s hall of fame.

“Your name may not appear down here in this world’s hall of fame. In fact, you may be so unknown that no one knows your name,” the actor said on PRAISE on TBN. “The Oscars and the praise of men may never come your way, but don’t forget that God has rewards that He’ll hand out someday.

“This crowd on earth, they will soon forget you when you’re not at the top,” he continued. “They will cheer like mad until you fall, and then the praise will stop. Not God.”

God never forgets. Caviezel is certain those who believe in Jesus will have their names written in God’s hall of fame.

“I wouldn’t trade my name, however small, that’s written there, beyond the stars in that celestial hall for all the famous names on earth or the glory that they share. I’d rather be an unknown here and have my name up there,” he finished with conviction.

In both of his roles in SOUND OF FREEDOM and THE PASSION OF CHRIST, Caviezel experienced harsh treatment. People in Hollywood didn’t want to work with him because of his moral choices.

Caviezal said about THE PASSION OF CHRIST, “I had no choice; I had to defend it. I had to fight to survive. The film exploded. It was off the charts.”

“You’d think, ‘Oh, you’re going to work a lot.’ No, I didn’t,” he continued. “I was no longer on the studio list. That was gone… Because of what I do as an actor — that’s my skill — it was given to me from God. I didn’t give it to myself, but it’s something in which I have a great range.”

Caviezel’s actions match his words about heavenly rewards; he doesn’t care what the world thinks about him.

After 2023’s SOUND OF FREEDOM, a movie about saving children from sex trafficking, Caviezel lost two agents. He had worked with them for 17 and 15 years, respectively. He also lost representation from his lawyer.

“Now I understand why all these actors didn’t want to do the movie because of this. Listen, you do SCHINDLER’S LIST 50 years later, you’re a hero. Try doing SCHINDLER’S LIST when the real Nazis are right there. Understand how that becomes more dangerous?”

“I don’t understand why people are willing to let children be hurt, but in this time, Hollywood says, ‘No, no, let’s kick that down fifty years from now and then [see where we’re at]. That’s crap,” he said.

Movieguide® reported on the actor’s career in May:

The actor then spoke about his desire to create moral, faith-based content in Hollywood.

“I wanted to make movies that had a redeemable quality,” Caviezel explained. “That’s why I was called into this business. I gave my career to Jesus.”

In an interview with Jet Set Magazine, the actor elaborated on his career aspirations, saying, “I’m looking forward to making more films that tell stories that bring characters to some sense of redemption. At this phase in my career, I want to make sure the writing is strong and the creative team is top-notch so that I continue to grow, too.”

Movieguide has previously honored Caviezel for his performances in morally uplifting roles with a Graze Award® and Teddy Bear Awards®.
