Joe Rogan Believes It Is Time To Forgive Will Smith: ‘He’s a Human Being’

By Movieguide® Staff

Podcast host Joe Rogan recently called on fans and Hollywood to forgive actor Will Smith for slapping Chris Rock at last year’s Oscars.

Smith approached Rock on stage after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith’s alopecia.

Rogan invited actor Jon Bernthal on his popular podcast, “The Joe Rogan Experience,” and said that Smith is a “human being” who should “be forgiven.”

“Now thinking about [it], I’m like, that guy has to be forgiven,” Rogan said. “Like, he clearly has deep remorse for what he’s done. And he’s also clearly living in a world where he was given nothing but adulation and praise for most of his life.”

“And then all of a sudden, he has this one, in many people’s eyes, unforgivable moment where he does something just so … stupid,” he added. “He’s a human being. You just gotta forgive him, you know? And I think the real person who has to forgive him — if he wants to is Chris Rock.”

Movieguide® previously reported:

Will Smith’s Oscar-winning night was fraught with emotions, from a slap heard around social media to taking home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in KING RICHARD.

During the chaos, Smith said fellow actor Denzel Washington offered him biblical words of wisdom to help ground him.

“At your highest moment, be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you,” Smith said Washington told him after Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock, who cracked a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Smith gave a tearful acceptance speech and apologized for his behavior.

KING RICHARD is also nominated for two Movieguide® Awards for its strong biblical content, including the Epiphany Prize® for Most Inspiring Movie and Best Movie for Mature Audiences.
