Jonathan Isaac Launches Basketball Shoe Line with Bible Verses: ‘Live Bold’
By Movieguide® Contributor
NBA star Jonathan Isaac just launched Judah 1, the world’s first basketball shoe with visible Bible verses.
“Most people see the ‘Judah 1’ as an outlandish endeavor. Shoot, when we first started, so did I ??♂️,” Isaac wrote on Instagram. “I was afraid that delivering a sneaker that represented our values without compromising style or performance was too tall a task!! But here we are!!☺️?? The first basketball sneaker with visible Bible verses.”
The shoes come in five colors, each featuring a different Bible verse. John 14:26, 2 Corinthians 4:9 and Romans 8:37 are among the verses featured on the back, each with a personal significance to Isaac’s faith journey.
“To live bold means standing up for what you believe in,” Isaac said, explaining why he made the shoes. “What would it look like to give people the opportunity to wear their values on their feet and just have that freedom to say this is who I am, this is what I stand for. Making a decision to be authentically you no matter what anyone has to say about it, no matter what anyone thinks, no matter what you may face or come up against.”
“Understanding that Christ is with me and I’m never alone gives me the strength to live bold,” he added.
Wearing these shoes will make Isaac stand out on the court, something he is used to. During the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, Isaac chose to stand during the national anthem while nearly every other player in the league stood to show their support. He faced heavy backlash for that decision, but it showed people that there are other avenues towards reconciliation.
He has since used this platform to encourage others to stay true to their faith and stand up for what they believe in.

Nearly two years ago, on July 31, 2020, Jonathan Isaac became the first NBA player to stand for the national anthem while teammates and peers around the league knelt.
Isaac recently published his first book called Why I Stand, which explains why he chose to abstain from wearing a Black Lives Matter shirt and kneel with the rest of the league.
In the book, Isaac explains that he could not find the answer to life’s many hardships when he looked to the world.
“I believe that Jesus Christ is the answer because he’s been the answer for me and I’m able to put it into a book and share my story and my testimony,” Isaac told The Christian Post. “To me, that gives ‘the stand’ its backbone.”
