Jonathan Roumie may walk in the “Holy Land” everyday on THE CHOSEN set, but the actor who plays Jesus recently had the opportunity to visit the real Holy Land and walk where Jesus really walked.
In a YouTube video, author and speaker Jeff Calvins led Roumie to the spot where Jesus was right before the crucifixion.
“Here’s the deal. This is where Peter denies the Lord three times,” Calvins said while standing near a rocky area. “Jesus said, ‘Before the cock crows, you’ll deny me three times.’ And as Peter is out here in a charcoal fire warming himself, three times, he denies the Lord, and then we hear the cock crow at that point.”
Calvins is referring to Matthew 26:34, where Jesus says to Peter, “Truly I tell you, this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”
Calvins continued, “After that last supper, they made their way from up there down to the Garden of Gethsemane. My friend, you are sitting on the actual stones that Jesus walked on from the Upper Room. These stones right here. These are the actual Roman stones.”
Roumie looked around solemnly at the area around him.
“This is the road that Jesus walked on down,” Calvins continued. “I gotta tell you, one year I was walking down these steps, and I stopped right about here, and I looked over there, and all of a sudden it hit me.”
Calvins explained how in that moment, he contemplated what Jesus might have been thinking about while walking down those steps.
“He knew He’s going to come this way again. And I asked myself, what was He thinking about? And then it hit me, He was thinking about me, and He was thinking about you,” he said.
Roumie responded, “I feel like I need to walk barefoot on these stones.”
He then took his shoes off and walked barefoot up and down the path that Jesus walked.
Roumie’s visit to the Holy Land was made in partnership with the prayer app Hallow to help prepare people for Easter.
On Hallow’s Instagram page, they shared a video of Roumie’s time in the Holy Land. The caption of the post reads,

“Walk where He walked 👣 Pray where He prayed 🙏Experience His Passion like never before ✝️,” Hallow said in an Instagram post about Roumie’s visit.

Roumie also took to Instagram to share his gratitude for the incredible experience.
He said, “My friends, words cannot convey just how much being in the Holy Land filming this project on @hallowapp for you meant to me. LIFE-CHANGING! 😭”
Even though Holy Week has come to an end, we can still reflect every day on the journey Jesus took and the sacrifice He made for us.
