Christian artist Josh Baldwin joined the “Worship Leader” podcast for a devotional and discussed what Bible verse he turns to when “I feel like I’m burning out or when I feel like my flame inside is growing dim.”
Baldwin began to read Romans 12:11 (ESV): “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.”
“I find, for me, that a lot of times when I’m burning out, or a lot of times when I don’t feel that fire burning inside, it’s happening because I feel like my eyes are on myself too much, and I’m not actually doing — like serving the Lord, serving others. It says here, ‘contribute to the needs of the saints,'” Baldwin explained.
The worship leader then read the same verse but in The Message paraphrase: “Don’t burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don’t quit in hard times; pray all the harder. Help needy Christians; be inventive in hospitality.”
“I love that. It’s like, hey, get your eyes off yourself, and let’s serve others. Focus on the Lord and remind yourself of what He’s done,” Baldwin said. “So, if you’re dealing with burnout right now, if you’re dealing with cynicism creeping into your life because you feel like you have nothing else to give, maybe this is an opportunity for you to get your eyes off of yourself. Look to others, look to the Lord.”
Baldwin just concluded his Made For More Tour that took him from Tennessee to Florida to Georgia and more.
Aside from making music and going on tour, Baldwin leads worship for Bethel Church in Redding, California.
He posted a clip of his song, “Made For More,” on his Instagram. In the caption, he described the meaning behind the song.
“Isaiah 43 says, ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.’ He’s calling out to us, inviting us to walk into a greater destiny with Him and to be in relationship with Him. We are created in the image of God and we were made for so much more than we imagine for ourselves,” Baldwin wrote.
In addition to the Made For More Tour, Baldwin is gearing up to hit the road again with Phil Wickham, Benjamin William Hastings and Charity Gayle for the Worship Now Tour.
Throughout the busyness of life, though, Baldwin reminds himself and his fans to take their eyes off of themselves and look to the needs of others and seek God for strength.
