JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION Continues Moral, Uplifting Blockbusters Streak at Box Office
By Movieguide® Staff
The latest installment in the JURASSIC WORLD franchise, JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION, topped the weekend box office with $143.3 million.
The movie also reached nearly $400 million at the global box office.
While the JURASSIC WORLD franchise is a JURASSIC PARK reboot, DOMINION included reprised roles from Laura Dern, Sam Neill, and Jeff Goldblum.
A portion of Movieguide®’s review reads:
JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION brings back the leading cast members of the first JURASSIC PARK movie. Scientist Ellie Sattler, paleontologist Alan Grant and mathematician Ian Malcolm team up to expose a large, shady biotech firm. The firm has re-created an extinct species of large locusts that’s eating all the world’s crops except for the corporation’s modified ones. Meanwhile, the same firm has sent some thugs to kidnap the baby of Owen Grady’s trained raptor dinosaur. They’ve also kidnapped Owen and his wife, Claire’s, adopted daughter, Maisie. The two situations turn out to be related. So, the five heroes all team up together.
JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION has some terrific action set pieces. The movie also contains many dangerous, thrilling, scary dinosaur encounters. The constant roller coaster ride sometimes does get a little wearying, however. The movie’s main theme seems to be a celebration of motherhood. This strong moral theme is mixed, however, with strong environmentalist elements and implied references to evolution. JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION also contains some foul language and many scary, violent moments featuring lethal dinosaurs. So, MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for older children.
DOMINION defeated previous box office leader, TOP GUN: MAVERICK. Both movies contained positive, uplifting, and moral elements, which is proven to succeed at the box office time and time again.
Movieguide® previously reported:
Actor Tom Cruise recently reprised his role as the iconic Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in TOP GUN: MAVERICK.
The sequel comes 36 years after the original TOP GUN movie. The highly anticipated follow-up made its domestic debut over Memorial Day weekend after several COVID-19-related delays. However, the delays did not hinder MAVERICK, as the movie grossed $124 million between Friday and Sunday.
Despite his already impressive Hollywood resume, the movie marks the best debut for Cruise of his career.
Although MAVERICK contains foul language, the movie celebrates patriotism and sacrifice, a refreshing blockbuster entry for moviegoers and critics alike, who gave Cruise and the movie high praise.
The box-office numbers prove that moviegoers will seek out the in-theater experience when movies contain uplifting and moral values.
